I don't normally start threads, because when I do I have a bad day afterwords. Thing is it's January so I'll be having a bunch of bad days together. ANYWAY... I have a macbook. I hook up to my room mate's router with an ethernet cable. Usually it works fine. NOT TODAY (Or yesterday)! For some reason I can't connect. I check my network diagnostics and it says that Ethernet, Network Settings, and that ISP junk is all good. However, Internet and Server are red, they have failed. What's going on here man? I checked my room mate's internet...Oh my god, it doesn't work either! I checked all the cables on the Router and Modem, everything seems ok and plugged in. Except for the wireless antennae...For some reason that just fell off. That might explain why I can't get wireless to work. SO....Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to fix it all? Do I need a new router? How about a new modem? I hope that explains it well enough. Here's a random picture of Gene Snitsky: And for the joker that goes "Oh gee man why are you posting anyway" I'm wireless on a different network ya jerk!

Um ... whenever I have a connection problem (although I run a PC and not a Mac) like that, I unplug the power cord to the router for about 10 seconds and plug it back in, letting it reboot itself. I also shut down my computer for a few seconds and reboot that as well. That works for me.

call your internet provider that has helped me quite a few times. The first question they always ask me is. "Are you using a router?"

Yeah, mine will go schizo every now and then and I just have to reboot it. I call it the Gibbs Slap.

If that doesn't fix it, then turn around and do the same for the modem for ten seconds. For years, all my problems were with resetting the router. Now it seems to be the modem itself.

And if you ever have to replace the modem, for the love of god go to a Walmart or Best Buy and get it cheap. I went on vacation one time and when I returned mine had been fried by lightning. I went to the local phone company (who because they have a monopoly are the only high speed provider in my area) and they wanted 100 bucks for one. I looked at them and asked them if they were mental, because I could go 20 miles away to Walmart and get one for 36 bucks.
