*The way everyone wouldn't shut up about that Susan Boyle Youtube video. I mean damn I know society has gotten increasingly shallow, but is it that shocking that an ugly person can have talent?
*Lady Gaga being considered anything other than a mildly interesting novelty. Some of her songs are fun, but when she's considered the newcomer of the year by anyone, you know the music scene is in trouble.

The music of 2009 (and the last couple of years really) has been terrible for the most part. From the retarded hip pop crap to the whiny rock music, there's barely a single thing in the commercial music industry that I can tolerate.
The whole Twilight craze is killing me too. I watched the first movie with my girlfriend and while it wasn't a bad movie, I just didn't understand the Edward crap. The guy is pale, doesn't talk to anybody, and has a bad attitude when he does....sounds like the kind of guy that would've gotten picked on and beat up by the guys, and never talked to by the girls....but in Twilight he's the most popular guy in school. If 2009 is the year that chicks started falling in love with guys that look borderline suicidal then it's officially the worst year ever...until 2010 when I become suicidal from all the twilight crap, then it'll be cool.

Have to disagree on Lady Gaga. I think she's very talented.

Susan Boyle YouTube video?
Also, the BBC do an annual Most Annoying People of the Year show. Katie Price topped the listings. I'd suggest that is totally accurate.

The rest of the world discovered SuBo from Youtube, we suffered her first hand. I know they found her on Youtube because South Park mentioned it

I'll give the producers of the show credit, they know how to play people off as a joke. And when most of the people who they do that too are jokes, it works great when a person isn't. They knew she could sing if the show has the same audition process as other Cowell productions, but dammit if they could make her look like an ugly goof before anyone else found out. That said, yes, it is because society has gotten so shallow that we don't want to think anyone except a pretty person can sing.

The seemingly endless celebrity deaths.
I mean, they were just dropping like flies all year. The fact that some of them I liked only disturbed me more.

MICHAEL JACKSON IS AN ICON IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD! I can't believe how many times I heard someone say that same line. I understand MJ's death was big, and it was horrible and all of that. But a lot of the mourning was borderline cultic. Didn't help that the media decided to cash in.

I understand why people get upset about celebrity deaths, but you must keep things in perspective.

- The Whole SuBo thing
I admit I was one of those that said "Good for her" when she first appeared, but the constant ramming it down the throat got annoying.
- Jordan/Peter Andre Saga
I don't care one bit about these two chuckleheads, So when I turn on a TV or read a newspaper and ALL I see is Jordan/Peter Andre I tend to get annoyed
- Jade Goody an "Inspiration" to everyone
Now this is NOTHING to do with Jade herself because anyone dying of cancer is a sad thing but the Media just exploited the whole thing and made themselves look like hypocrits.
6 Months prior - Jade is a Racist bully who is a disgrace to britain
Now - Jade is an inspiration to people everywhere and the pride of Britain
Also Wendy Richard was a well known english TV actress most famous for playing Pauline Fowler in Eastenders also Died of Cancer not long after Jade Goody and no one said S***.
Wankers
I'll let Charlie Brooker explain more

I'll go with everyone overblowing the celebrity death thing. People die all the time, every year. Yet for some reason, people act like this year was any different.

Taylor Swift. She's not bad or anything, but dear lord, why is she on TV so much? Maybe that's why I didn't hate Kanye or whatever. We need him to interrupt her more often.

I LOVE Lady Gaga. She's talented as hell and has a crazy gimmick on top of it.
Taylor Swift on the other hand is white bread.
