I guess if Chris Berman in HD can survive, this could. I won't be watching it though.

What an awful, awful, terrible, god awful idea. This whole 3-D boom is peaking now, but like most fads, it'll be gone in two or three years, and then ESPN will have thrown millions of dollars into a trend that came and went.
ESPN should instead be focusing on how to better its own product, because the NBC/Comcast merger is highlighted by turning Versus into a serious threat to ESPN's monopoly on American sports. If ESPN doesn't get back to its roots (sports over entertainment), then they will be lapped by Versus within the decade.

Despite all ESPN's faults, they still have Disney behind them. I'm not sure where Comcast stands financially, but I doubt they have the cash right now to sink into bids on contracts with NFL, etc. Especially when, if the deal goes through, Comcast is going to have to start at the obvious point of building up NBC first and foremost.

3D is a fad that will never die. It just comes around for a while, then goes away, then comes back.

Ummm, are 3-D televisions even on the market yet? I thought that was something that was coming out late 2010 at the earliest.
EDIT: I should clarify that I know you can watch 3-D films on any TV, but all the big companies are working on 3-D capable TV's so that they're on par with the 3-D Movie Projectors. And that's the sort of TV I presume this is geared towards

In merging NBC with Comcast, Versus could do what ESPN does on ABC, when the games are labeled as "ESPN on ABC". They could just have "Versus Sports on NBC". If they do that, Versus instantly gains credibility, as they would have the Olympics, NFL on Sunday Nights and NHL. I'm not saying Versus could dethrone ESPN, but they could be the first legitimate challenge that Bristol has ever faced.

I could say something about finally being able to see their boners in 3-D whenever they spend 45 minutes of SportsCenter talking about Brett Favre...
...but I won't.

3D is a fad that will never die. It just comes around for a while, then goes away, then comes back. Except with the $$$ some recent movies with 3-D (especially friggin Avatar), its gonna stick around for awhile for now.
