Just reboot the series and make Spider-Man Begins or something. Then they might actually get it right and have the foresight not to kill off all the villains.

Hopefully this delay will lead to Raimi and Macguire dropping out of the project. Fingers crossed. As much as I love Raimi, I agree with you. This series DESPERATELY needs a reboot. Get rid of Dunst, Maguire, and Raimi, and bring in a new director who can give this series the feel and actors and looks that it NEEDS, that it's been lacking since part 2. It's clear neither of these three really WANT to be on this project anymore. Maybe turn things over to Timor Bekmambetov (WANTED, 9)? IF nothing else, WANTED was a helluva fun ride, and I think James McAvoy could do a better Parker than Maguire too, while I'm thinking of that film.  |

Jedi-El: I think a LOT of us have wanted casting changes on this for a while now. Dunst looked absolutely ridiculous as MJ next to Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen....and I'm not trying to be a chauvinist pig by saying that. It's just....MJ is supposed to be the red hot stunner, not Gwen! And it was reversed with Dunst in the role.
And yeah, I was also thinking that their supposed Venom would have been a great Parker too.

I wouldn't mind cast changes (though, personally, I like the cast and director already involved in the series), but I don't see the point of a reboot. Spider-Man has plenty of villains that can still be used without them having to try to recycle Dr. Octopus or Green Goblin (and this assumes they can't go the comic route of having them return from their fates somehow), and Spider-Man's origin was covered pretty well in Spider-Man 1.
If they do go with a cast change, though, I'd hope that they'd get a cast that they could keep for more than one movie. Having someone different as Spider-Man with each new movie would be too sorta crappy.

Why is everyone obsessed with reboots of films? Just because it worked for Batman doesn't mean it'll work for everyone else. Besides reboot just sounds like a sophisticated word for remake. I want a sequel not a reboot, Spiderman has tons of villians that can be used for the 4th film.

It can be fixed though just because the 3rd film was not up to par does not mean the next one won't be. Honestly I do not want to sit through his origin again when I seen it not too long ago in 2002. Reboot does not mean it will be the fix that saves the series. Just make a good sequel with an interesting story and characters. The public seen how he became Spiderman already if studios want to do a reboot like 10 or so years later fine but not this soon. |

A Year One approach would seem to be unnecessary in light of the way they've pretty well already covered the origin story. Changes? Sure, why not, though for the most part I haven't minded the cast and crew-- it was completely in my view a plot problem ( or too many plots as it were) rather than the principles involved. In fact, while I'll concede that Dunst as MJ doesn't work for the John Romita/Todd Mcfarlane Mary Jane who is this supermodel chick, Dunst does work for the way she was portrayed in the Ultimate version of the character, i.e. more 'girl next door'.
So with that long-winded statement, I don't think a retooling is THAT necessary, rather some tweaking is all. However if Raimi and crew aren't totally into it, let the series lay dormant for awhile till you can get someone with a fresh take and enthusiasm for the project by all means.

When the producers don't try to force villains in the movie, they actually turn out well. Key lesson, don't force a villain the director doesn't like into the movie, and don't try to force three into a movie unless there's a team involved.
And there are plenty of villains they can use for a fourth. Ignore the awful Daredevil movie and you can use Kingpin. Kraven was part of one of Spiderman's best storylines. The Lizard, Chameleon, Vulture, Rhino, Mysterio and Electro are all viable options as well. Just don't force several of them into it.

Also, it'd be nice to see a Spider-Man movie where I wasn't expected to feel sympathy for the villain.

You mean villains must be totally and unsympathetic at all?
What's wrong with a baddie that is bad for what he/she does, but at the same time you could feel some sort of sympathy for them, if not enough obviously to excuse what they did, i.e. kill a ton of people?
I mean take that Green Goblin fella. He seems to be a guy who used his brains (and ruthlessness) to become a self-made billionaire industry tycoon. Then he loses that military contract which his livelyhood the company loses, and even when they did get said contract back (killing the competition is cheating if you ask me), the guy still loses his company by corporate politicking.
Can't blame him (but I do that green gas) for why he went nutty.
