I am in no way a die hard fan of Doctor Who but having recently watched a few of the Tom Baker episodes I am amazed anyone would think he wasn't the greatest of them all.
I can't explain what it is about him but to me he just is The Doctor. I suppose it is a testament to David Tennant that some think him to be even better even if I don't.
As for the finale I will be honest and admit I didn't get alot of it having not really watched properly for a while. The "I dont want to go" was a nice touch though.

I'm actually looking forward to part 2 airing here very, very soon. {Spoiler} Okay, I've seen pretty much every doctor from Tom Baker on, and I've seen countless regenerations. This one felt kind of different, as I liked the effort that David Tennant put into making this incarnation of The Doctor as enjoyable as it was. The new kid definitely has some shoes to fill, and we shall have to see if he will make as good a Doctor.
I have to say that with the effort that was put into this doctor, I did feel a little pang of sadness when he went around checking on people he had been with before the change. They actually made you feel about this character, so it was sad when you realized that he was indeed done.

Grendel - I think Tennent may very well become for a certain generation the "definitive" Doctor, or at least the one that comes to mind immediately like Tom Baker did. If at least because of their long runs, David with 4 and Baker with 6. I know Doom didn't care for him, but Tennent was just a joy to watch, and help carry a many stinker episode. Though if you ask me, he isn't my favorite Doctor. That's Davison. I mean how many guys can come off manly in a friggin crochet shirt? As for this "finale," yeah I liked it. Sure its still Davies-trademark meshnynewss, but honestly {Spoiler}the revelation that the Time Lords went all jihad fanatical insane, it makes perfect sense for Davies' entire 5 series run in itself. Really wanted Gallifrey to come back finally, but I guess they nailed the door on that for good. For now. I wonder what technobabble nonsense they'll use to bring back the Master next time.
Sure that whole epilogue sorta dragged, but it was nice and necessary. At best, its a guy saying goodbye to his reign and the characters as manager he helped conceive onto TV. At worst, its Davies applauding himself for not just bringing back Doctor Who to TV, but also that its once again became a national franchise over in the UK.
And he would be right. Better producer than writer, but hey we gotta give him credit where its due.
As for the identity off that woman, I know people say its the Doctor's Mother. I guess, but wouldn't it been nicer if it was another female Time Lord? Romana or Susan?
Bring on the Moffet administration!

So will The Doctor ever be a woman? He hinted at it after changed. Then again he keeps hinting at the Ginger thing too.

But they can easily say that when he turned into the 10th doctor and absorbed the TARDIS that he go infant lives or it rest. Or heck, they can have one from another dimension come over. The thing that make me think that they will find a loop hole is what was said that his song might be over, but the story will go on forever, or something along those lines.

Always thought funny how the Doctor, with many many many options to which to regenerate his body is always white, British, and male.
On the other hand, a black Doctor would be rather awesome with the right guy.

You managed to mention 2 of my favorite doctors in your post, well played. Tennant brought a lot to the role and Tom Baker ... well, he was just perfect. As one of my friend said back in the day, "He's the best doctor because he just doesn't take himself too seriously." I can't tell you how filled with rage I was when they had The 5 Doctors special episode and Tom Baker was only seen for a short time.

I can't tell you how filled with rage I was when they had The 5 Doctors special episode and Tom Baker was only seen for a short time. Well wasn't the deal that Baker refused to participate? That dude is real sorta wacky about anything regarding Who after his tenure, like it was below him or something. Then again, he got voted years back one of the more "eccentric" UK celebrities, so that explains everything. Honestly, I would have a geek-on* if they ever actually had another sort of "Doctors" special again. Imagine Eccleston, Tennant, and that new guy Smith sharing the screen together, those Incarnations busting each other's chops. Eccleston looking ridiculously goofy in his leather jacket, Tennant acting bipolar, and Smith just fresh out of high school. Like our buddy Doom, I do too have a fond feeling for McCoy and I get a real appreciation for what that tenure tried to do as I get older The show was dying because the lightweight formula caught up with them, so they decided to remove the pleasantness and reveal the Doctor for what he could be sometimes: A righteous manipulative nasty son of a gun. In a way, he's like Timothy Dalton's James Bond was. He gets a bad rap, as if its his portrayal's fault why the Tardis took a good long vacation. When its everything but the truth. *=Tennant and Moffet obviously showed off their geek boners in that "Time Crash" special they did with Davison.

McCoy has always been, hands down, my absolute favourite. His manipulative, sneaky, greater good style of Doctor added a *ahem* dimension that was really refreshing. Dragonfire, Remembrance of the Daleks, Battlefield and...Oh, God, what was McCoy's last episode? It had the cat peop...SURVIVAL! Aye, them. All classics and all among my favourites.
I think a case can be made for every doctor being the best, though, with the possible exception of Colin Baker. He just wasn't there long enough and nothing too notable happened. I did enjoy him, though, so...eh.
What was the one where the Doctor had those two wires that could've erased the Daleks from time? He was all "Do I have the right?" I can never remember if it's Davidson or Baker, and I've not seen it in years, but that one was amazing.

Colin Baker just happened to be a victim of everyone in charge at the time not knowing what the hell they were doing. That and having scripts to work with a no actor could have salvaged.

I didn't mind Colin Baker's portrayal of The Doctor. But you're right, they did have some crappy scripts. Hell, they still have some crappy scripts, but it's the actors that make them work. How much goofy stuff did Tom Baker have to deal with? Hell, how much goofy stuff did they all have to deal with?
