Ah yes.. the comedy team that made senseless comedy violence cool. I always had a soft spot for them. I was obsessed with them as a kid. They used to be on WPWR in Chicago back in the early to mid 90s at 9:00 o clock on Saturday nights. I loved that show with a passion and my parents always let me stay up to watch it.

Joe Besser was the worst of the 6 three stooges.

Ah yes.. the comedy team that made senseless comedy violence cool. I also love how every gag you can see coming from a mile away. Between them and Looney Tunes you got all the senseless violence you need in a life time

i still enjoy them, the man in my sig with me hosts a three stooges show called stooge a palooza on wciu on saturday nights before his regular svengoolie show. he hosts is without the make up and costume as his real name of rich koz...one thing i really like is the Shemp stuff...he is just a classic comedy heel...pretty much EVERYTHING bad that happens to him he kinda asks for. Also Larry just being the guy to egg on everybody, he wont start fights, be he will gladly patsy somebody into getting slapped by moe. actually the more i think....every single stooge is a heel....the three stooges are the best damn stable ever!

Between them and Looney Tunes you got all the senseless violence you need in a life time Sure, but what made them funny was the aftermath. Take one short where Curly is using a table saw to cut up some wood on a table, which Moe is standing on. See? You already know what will happen. Curly cuts too deep, in effect cutting said table, and when Moe moves, he will fall on his butt hard. Yet we still laugh because of their reactions. That tradition still lives on in Jackass.

I'm a Shemp fan, personally. That guy was the bee's knees.

You're right, it's about reactions. They played there parts to the hilt and we love them for it. And for the record, The Three Stooges are ten times funnier than the guys on Jackass ever hoped to be.

I'm a Shemp fan, personally. That guy was the bee's knees. He got alot of crap because he had to follow Curly, and yeah Shemp couldn't compete with Curly. But like you, I have a personal fondness for the guy. He's like that nice guy-but-big-loser that you happen to know around the place. He can't help it.

I bought a couple of the rereleases on DVD but I got both Curly. Which Shemp set would you recommend. Also looking at the set I never knew they had a couple of 3d shorts

Joe Besser was the worst of the 6 three stooges. There were 7, technically. After Larry died, Moe hired old friend Emil Sitka to replace hiim and they did a few promo appearances and publicity shot stuff before Moe died. I love the Stooges in all their incarnations. Been loving the hell out of the boxed sets that Columbia's been releasing in chronological order. Just great stuff.

Emil Sitka was a big part of several of those old shorts. "Hold hands you love birds"

The infamous "Shemped" shorts would be interesting, to compare real Shemp shots with those of body doubles after his death.

Joe Besser was the worst of the 6 three stooges. To be fair to Besser, and I absolutely agree for the statement, Besser wasn't the first pick to replace Shemp. 'Curly' Joe Derita was actually tapped to replace Shemp, but CJ was tied to a contract he could not get out of, and therefore Joe was put in, mostly for the convience that he was already at Columbia doing other projects.

Also looking at the set I never knew they had a couple of 3d shorts The earlier the better RT. This last set has a lot of shorts with rehashed footage, and the future doesn't look brighter. I recommend getting the 1946-1948, 1949-1951, but strongly hold back on 1952-1954. The 3-D shorts are good, but pretty much the only original stuff on the set.
