So the Colts are in a close game with the Jets and they're a game and a half away from history... and they decide to sit Manning? Seriously? The miniscule risk that he'll get injured is worth throwing away your chance at achieving what so few have done? I used to like the Colts - after what they did in 2007 week 17 I soured on them, but when Dungy retired I sort of dropped the grudge. But this just sickens me. They have a real shot at history and they give it away. Is 2 quarters of extra rest really going to be the difference in their playoff run? Not only that, but you think they would've learned by now that every year they rest their starters late in the year they're rusty early in the playoffs and have an early exit. The one year they didn't lock up a high seed and they actually had to play through week 17 was the year they hit the ground running in the playoffs and became superbowl champions. Gee, lesson to be learned here? Apparently not. What they're doing right now disgusts me. Screw that franchise. If I were Manning I would've refused to come off the field. What are they going to do, declare him inactive for the next game? I've never seen a team so close to historical greatness decide to tank it. No fight in them at all. I don't understand how you could pass this chance up. I really hope they lose their first playoff game in a blowout. It will be the most satisfying thing to happen this year in the NFL. Its just disgusting. They way they crapped all over their fans and the NFL at large. You play the game...every game...to win. You don't just blew your shot at immortality like that. It doesn't even make sense. Such a horrible move. Basically you pull the starters late in the 3rd. Next week they will barely play if at all THEN you have a bye week before the 1st playoff game. So basically they have 2 1/2 weeks to be out of sync, kill their momentum and disappoint the fanbase going into their home playoff game. The Colts are what's wrong with some teams in the NFL. They play with agenda's, and ruin the integrity of the game. They basically gave the Jet's a free win that also just interfered with several other teams playoff chances. You play to win the game period. The Colt's decided to not play. They might as well just forfeited the game since they had already decided that they would only play hard for one half. Even their own fans know that this was a bad move and it undermines the league. Nail. Head. Bam.

Moving this to the right thread. Still celebrating how my people do...with lots of Queen. BTW, I'm officially on the Pack Bandwagon for the Playoffs. GO PACK GO! Hop on! ;D I think it's a great achievement to even get in the playoffs with basically the youngest team on average in the NFL, a Quarterback who was unproven a year ago and a whole fan base moving on from the previous regime. Even one and done isn' t the end of the world with so many players getting their first playoff game under their belts. All in all, apart from Tampa and Pittsburgh, a great season and I'm very proud of the Packer Nation. Oh and yea, the Colts are going to do what they do every year, choke in the playoffs. You would think they would of learned something but nope, same old over protective Colts.

He might as well say in his press conference "Listen fans, how about a deal. If we don't win the Super Bowl this year, feel free to drag me by my ankles to the middle of the city and burn me at the stake." Simply put, if that was the Eagles in that situation? If they didn't win the big one that jackass would be run out of town the next day. Good job coach, you've officially earned a spot in NFL history with that one move. The bad kind of history.

Oh yeah, and on a positive note my Browns won their third game in a row. We're playing hot right now, and If we can knock off Jacksonville next week it should go a long way into getting us right back in the playoff hunt...
That is of course if this e-mail I'm writing to Rodger Goodell can convince him to extend the season by another 10 games. I know its a long shot, but right now its the only shot the Browns have. Everyone keep your fingers crossed.

I'm not a fan of the Colts, but I did want to see a run at perfection, and because they handed the Jets a win. I can understand taking Peyton out with a double digit lead in the 4th, but taking him out early and not putting him back in is ridiculous. Hey Colts, you could face the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Championship Game, and you'll need all the momentum you can get. The Chargers right now are playing the best football in the NFL. And like you said the Colts f***ed over a lot of teams in the playoff race. While everyone else had to go out and play full teams from their opponents, the Jets just had to beat the Colts' backups. I'm pretty sure the Broncos would have loved to play the backups for the Eagles.

I am shocked to see so many people pissed that the Colts started sitting their starters in the third quarter.
1) This is not the same as the sitting of the starters that the Colts have done in the past. At this time of the year, Peyton at most plays a quarter, but usually only two possessions. They waited until part way through the third quarter with a lead. Granted it was not a large lead, but it was still a lead.
2) It isn't so much that they were that worried about the highly durable Manning getting injured, but rather the other starters getting injured. They currently are missing a number of their starters do start with, and most of the other starters have missed games due to injury before. Sure, some of the starters were still out there once Manning got yanked, but that is only because they don't have enough scrubs to play backups in all positions. Hell, they couldn't even play the dime defense last week because they did not have enough DBs dressed for the game.
3) You expect me to feel bad that your team might not make the playoffs because The Colts rested players and the Bengals likely will as well? Why should I care? For starters, the Jets should never be in the position to begin with, but they are because so many other teams did not take care of their own business. Secondly, it is actually in the best interest for any playoff team that the crappiest teams get the wildcard spots. A team that fails to put a single body between Dwight Freeney and a QB on two separate occasions is someone that we would rather have in the playoffs. If you don't like that, then maybe your team should have done whatever was necessary to be in the Colt's position.

^I think people are more puzzled as to why they didn't want to go 16-0. To me that's still an awesome achievement. Winning the Super Bowl isn't the be all and end all for making the Hall Of Fame or be remembered as great (Dan Marino). Say what you want about the Patriots losing the Super Bowl but their regular season still was the best any modern team has ever had.
So yea, the Colts could of gone 16-0 and lost in their first playoff game but there is no shame in that, it's a one game season in the playoffs, everyone has a chance, but at least you would of made history with a 16-0 season.
It's got nothing to do with other teams relying on the Colts to win, that's just silly, I'm just sorry for the fans of the Colts.

If the Colts showed even half the desire and will to win that teams like the Pats, and the Steelers have they would've owned this last decade.

That, and well....the AFC West has made the Colts their absolute bitch during the playoffs this decade. Most of the time the Colts faced an AFC West team in the playoffs, they've melted down, big time. The only team they've had a chance against for the most part was Denver, and that's only when they hosted Denver.

Watched the game and shook my head in disbelief. I can't believe how much respect I've lost for Jim Caldwell. I also lost count of how many times I rolled my eyes listening to Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf continually say Caldwell was doing the right thing.

It's only been these last 2 seasons that the Colts have lost, and both of them were against the Chargers.

There's a very good chance if the Jets win their first playoff game that they will play the Colts in the divisional round.
How poetic would that be?

the Colts head coach Jim Caldwell pusses out of 15-0. That's the best way to sum up my day. I wanted to tell Bob Lamey that the fans weren't booing the sight of Curtis Painter as much as they were booing Jim Caldwell's decision. And he did make a promise earlier in the week stating that if things went south, he would bring the available starters back, but Gijon Robinson is NOT a starter. Thanks for killing the momentum, Jim, and if the Colts lose in the Divisional Round, we all know one person who'll get a deal of blame. On a somewhat happy note, I'm glad to see St. Louis getting closer to the #1 Draft Pick and all-but-insuring a 1-15 season, barring anything happening next year. If history indicates things, they could wind up going 0-16 in 2010 barring any major miracles. For the top pick, I'd rather get Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska. Top picks don't have to be mandatory QB picks, and the crop this year is average at best. I wouldn't take a chance of Bradford, and the Rams really need help on the defense: you can't expect Steven Jackson to bail you out.

Bengals are in an interesting position. They play the Jets next week, and with the only way to put themselves in a better position in the playoffs, I'm pretty sure they're going to rest their key starters. Fourth seed plays the sixth seed, right? The playoff picture won't be set until next week, and the best I can hope for is having the Ravens in the last spot. The Bengals know how to play them. They win that game, it's the Chargers next, which they lost to in the closing seconds, so that's a winnable game. Conceivably, the Bengals could make the AFC Championship game against probably the Colts unless the Pats do their job and stymie them like they usually do.
