If the 90's were known for the teen actor slasher films, what will be 00's be remembered for?
1) Japanese horror remakes most known for creepy ghost children.
2) Torture Horror it started with Saw and then went south from there.
3) The Remake Horror, seems like every horror film from the 70's and 80's was remade this decade. Some being good, while most being really really bad.
4) The return of zombies, even the running ones.

The return of Zombies, IMHO.
On a related note torture horror doesn't frighten me (with the notable exception of the first Saw), so much as sicken me. Especially the most extreme examples such as the Hostel Series, yuck!

I'm gonna go with Zombies, because with most horror these days it seems like every movie the main charater does boring detective work which always leads to the mental hospital where their always attacked by a crazy old person.

The return of Zombies because it gave us Zombieland and that in turn gave us Emma Stone.

I voted Zombies to soon so I can't retract my vote but I'll have to say torture horror. Wolf Creek and Saw are possibly in my top five favorite horror movies of this decade and I really enjoyed Hostel.

The return of Zombies.
Also, I just wish there was a thread where horror discussions could take place. ;D

The fact that every month or so there's a new Dinner for Fiends. About all I enjoy on the horror movie front, provided they don't get to rambling for a half hour on District 9 or anything.

I like the Saw films but don't count them to be "torture horror", Hostel and the like I count to be torture horror and I didn't like them.
I'm going to be controversial and vote re-makes as they have breathed new life into older franchises (some may have failed but some we're badly needed - namely Friday The 13th)

I'm glad of the return of the zombies, but I like all of the movies I've seen in the torture horror genre, except for Hostel 2.

I assume you're talking strictly American films? Out of those choices, I honestly have to go with the Japan-style thriller boom in the early-middle part of the decade. I MUCH prefer that style over the Eli Roth-Hostel torture horror films, and while there ahve been some good ones, the vast majority of the wave of slasher remakes have sucked.

Other: Seems like there's been an influx of cinema verite' (and a few new creative takes on how to accomplish this).

Good to see another fan of DFF on here! Yeah they do tend to ramble sometimes....especially about the non-horror stuff like say, 2012 or one of the horrible non-horror films Foy subjects himself to, but in the end, it actually kind of makes it seem MORE natural that way, since real conversations DO tend to have sidebars and get derailed sometimes. The best episodes of the podcast, IMO, are the ones where either Creepy or Foy are SUPER pissed about something. That tends to be some good stuff to listen to. As far as this poll goes, I'm going to say "Other" and point to the horrible quality of big studio releases leading to something as small as PARANORMAL ACTIVITY being given widespread consideration as an alternative to the bloated blockbusters and studio fare that was running at the time. I really think it was a case of "right place, right time" for that film, and am truly happy for the success it had in the face of things like SAW XLII and Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN 2: Electric F***a-loo.

I like the non supernatural element of SAW, the same thing I liked about Manhunt. One could make the case that they just use excessive planning in it's place, I understand that argument. But I still enjoy the SAW series, and trying to figure out who did what, who knew what and when.

Other: the influx of small, European horror films/directors-- High Tension, Inside, Martyrs, Shaun of the Dead, Let the Right One In, Dead Snow, Frontier(s), etc.

1.) J-Horror (and the remakes of said J-Horror) films just don't really do anything for me. They're not bad, but they're not good, either. They're just simply there.
2.) So there's Saw, Hostel (and their sequels), Wolf Creek, and Captivity. Those are the only really notable "torture porn" flicks. How does 4 films constitute a trend? Yeah, the Saw franchise still makes money, but I don't see many Saw knockoffs coming out.
3.) I've said a bajillion times that remakes are hardly a new trend, but the focus on 70s/80s stuff I can see as being significant. While there hasn't been a whole lot of great stuff to come from this (Friday the 13th was okay, Wizard of Gore was really good), the release of the remakes is usually accompanied by a new-fangled release of the original, so a new audience can get a look at it. Sounds like a positive to me. So I went with this.
4.) I'm so sick of zombies anymore. For every one good zombie movie, there's been a handful of mediocre-to-s****y ones. And Max Brooks's first book was so dry it sucked all the fun out of the genre for me, and then there's people treating it like the friggin' BIBLE of zombies. "If zombies were real, this would be the most likely scenario!" Well they're NOT real, so I don't give a s*** about likely scenarios. If you can tell me an entertaining story about zombies that travel by unicycle, I'll let you tell me that story.
5.) Sorry for the ranting.
6.) The WC Horror Threads are fantastic! [/cheap plug]
