Why is that a bad thing? Why should NO ONE beat Undertaker at Wrestlemania? What's got everyone so hung up on it? 1) The day you end the streak is the day you nullify one of the things that makes the Undertaker the Undertaker. Nobody talks about the Patriots going undefeated in the regular season two years ago. They talk about the fact that the patriots blew it when it mattered most. The same thing would happen here. 19 years of buildup would be all but forgotten in the eyes of most casual fans, and they'd just remember the one loss over the other 17 wins. 2) We all know how Vince would handle it. He'd either completely blow the whole storyline (see Invasion, NWO, etc.), or it would be relevant for about 3 weeks until after the next PPV. We'd have it crammed down our throats via "This is the guy that ended Undertaker's Wrestlemania Streak!" every time he came out for another month or so, then it would be "random bit of trivia #2842". Why throw away something you took 19 years to build up for a storyline that'll last two months max and isn't even guaranteed to get the other guy over? 3) What's wrong with letting this be the Undertaker's legacy? What's wrong with letting this be something that he goes into the HOF with? Nobody has given a good reason why he "needs" to "give someone the rub". This isn't the 70's and 80's any more. There's no rule stating that wrestlers on the way out absolutely MUST give up everything they've worked so hard for in order to "put over" someone who may or may not even be in the business next year. This is the 2000's. There are tons of ways to build up new talent these days without sacrificing the established stars. 4) Allowing undertaker to keep the streak is a great way to say "thank you" for his 20 years of dedicated work. He took a throwaway gimmick that was supposed to last until they found something permanent for him to do and turned it into one of the biggest moneymaking gimmicks in wrestling history. He's been a company man even through the worst of times. He's always done what was asked of him without question. He's been a locker room leader. He's given us some of the biggest matches and moments of all time. Let this be his "rolex watch", so to speak. 5) "The Streak" is as synonymous with Wrestlemania these days as Hulk Hogan was during the first 8 or so. It's a part of Wrestlemania. And once you end it, it's gone forever. There is no getting it back if future plans don't go the way Vince wants them to, or if he wakes up the next morning and thinks "maybe this wasn't such a good idea.". If you end the streak, you eliminate one of the biggest things today's fans associate with Wrestlemania. And see #1 above -- people will no longer talk about the streak. They'll talk about the one loss at the end of it. Simply put, there are tons of reasons to let him retire with it, and no convincing reasons to end it.

I say if they are not gonna end the streak they should just stop putting him in matches at wrestlemania ,why keep building it up if your not gonna do anything with it?

It's a Draw. Every once in a while there's a guy who scares me that he will indeed be the one to beat Taker. Triple H at WM17 and Orton at WM21 come to mind. Superman Cena would totally be one. I'd be just like a little mark kid again screaming at my screen for Taker to kick out of that "Attitude Adjustment" or to not tap to the STF! I was in a bar screaming "NO!" at the top my lungs when Orton hit the RKO at WM21 and I wasn't the only one. Full grown men in a bar here. Like I said it's the only "magical" thing left to this old fan. Streak time arrives and, when it;s a real threat, I'm a mark again.
Look at all the signs in the audience. People come to see THE STREAK~!

Would a loss at Wrestlemania really take away from the way WWE had built Undertaker as the most dominant god-like figure in wrestling......EVER. He always gets his heat back, and he never looks the least bit weak against anyone.....EVER. And what happened to kayfabe being dead and everything being a work, and blah, blah, blah, blah. What happened to wins and losses meaning nothing? What happened to caring about things like "legacy" making you a mark? By all accounts, the lockerroom worship of Undertaker would entail that he's the most "all about the business" person in history, would losing at Mania really mean that much to him? Who knows? He may even be up for it.

That's not it at all. A loss won't hurt Taker.
But the win may not help the streak-ender at all. I personally don't think it will pay off (for the reasons I and others have stated) so I say keep the streak.
I'll only consider it understandable if they got the next Hogan circa 1984. The guy you know 100% for sure will make it as THE STAR of the company and bring it to new heights. Not Ted DiBiase Jr. or whomever Vince may feel needs a rub. The rub won't work unless the dude's perfect.

Well,I think that ending the streak is pretty pointless, not a single person on the roster can really be credible(*cough*American Dragon*cough*is)I don't think it'll be a heat killer, when done properly(like retiring Hardy)can really put some wind in your proverbial sails.Say someone challenges Taker to a match and beats him and Taker asks for the rematch and loses,so Taker puts his streak on the line.Imagine the heat that would generate if Taker would lose(like Khali before him)starting out with beating Taker can be a real push!

And, the second where he taps is when I stop caring again and turn off Mania in anger and complain about the booking cause the streak amounted to squat. I wanna see Cena vs. Taker at Mania but...Cena winning? Won't elevate Cena. May actually hurt him as a face. Kills the draw of the streak. What shitty booking!

Can't deny that unless you're one of those conspiracy theorists who think Taker didn't really tap to Punk and he got "screwed". LUDICROUS! Edit: Beaten to it!

we all assume Taker will win automatically, which devalues the match. Exactly. Each year goes by, and no matter the opponent, we all pretty much know Taker is going to come out with the victory. Cena doesn't seem like the person to end his streak, the only people that come to mind that I thought would have ended the streak are Kane and Michaels, and they haven't. If anyone is deserving of it, I would have to say Kane. I mean, The Undertaker personally asked Kane if he wanted him to end the streak and Kane has declined on more than one occasion. Though the past two matches they had at Wrestlemania could make the third one seem like overkill, facing the same guy 3 times at Wrestlemania, and beating him twice could make it somewhat predictable. But in my opinion, I believe the streak shouldn't be broken, I'd like to see it stop at 20-0.

If anyone beats him it should be Kane, followed by both characters vanishing into dust forever.

The main problem with ending the streak is that it immediately makes any future Mania match with Taker far less important. Sure it may be good, but the streak has become one of the main drawing points of the super show. If you end it, you lose some of that novelty.

I find myself going back and forth on whether the streak should ever end. On one hand, it's a legacy that WWE's genuinely managed to get over, something bigger and more legitimately special than any transient push... and in the age of the internet, when even the markiest of marks can skim over decades of angles and see how many things have been done before, how many unstoppable monsters have been stopped and how many faces and heels have turned back and forth, having something as REAL as the streak is very, very special. And yet, what's really the point of Andre never being slammed if it doesn't mean someone finally slams him in the end?
Cena won't do it. Cena doesn't need it, Cena isn't the sort of character who'd really benefit from it for more than a couple months, and Cena frankly does not deserve it (and I say that as someone who considers him one of the most significant pro wrestlers to debut in this decade).
There are only two guys who've been in WWE, past and present, who I could see credibly ending the streak (and Kane isn't one of them; that ship sailed long ago): Jeff Hardy and Shawn Michaels. Hardy's proved repeatedly why he really shouldn't be trusted with any sort of big rub, no matter how much his performances may have earned it, and Michaels... well, he's right on track, actually. Even before WM25, when everyone and his mother knew Undertaker would win (as he deserved to), I thought it might be an effective angle to have Michaels come back at WM26 for a rematch and win (or even lose again, then finally break the streak at WM 27), with both men retiring shortly thereafter. I still think that may the best solution for everyone, with the last two guys of their generation putting each other over and giving the fans a show they'll remember for years and years before heading off into the sunset.

The only conceivable reason to end the streak would be to get someone over and like someone else said...it won't. All the person that ends the streak will get is some heat for a month if they're playing heel and silent hatred for the rest of their career no matter how its booked. I don't want it to be broken...I mark for it.
