Brad Pitt did a great job in this. He needs to do more badass roles like this and something similar to Tyler Durden.

By far my favorite movie of the year.
I loved the bar scene just for the look on Hugo's face the entire time the Gustapo Officer was at the table. Sitting with the most "I WANT TO f***ING KILL YOU" look ever...even with the card stuck to his forheard. Then ramming his pistol into the guys nuts, and then finally stabbing the shit out of his neck.
AWESOME.

Hans Landa, the Jew Hunter. THE best villain of the year, and perhaps one of the most memorable for years to come, if ya axe me. Thanks, I agree he was great.

I can not express how much I loved Hans Landa, he was incredible, I've rewatched the opening with him and the farmer like 15 times, it's amazing. I really didn't care for any of the Basterds, especially brad pitt, not being from the US I can't say what accent he was using, but it was atrocious. I believe Pitt's character was supposed to be from either Alabama or Mississippi. Edit, according to IMDB, he was from the mountains of Tennessee.

Yeah, he mentions that a couple a times in the movie actually.

Totally loved it. Didn't see anything this year I enjoyed more. I myself love the "boring" parts. It just seems to create tension so thick it actually makes you nervous watching.

My favourite scene is the whole scene in the bar. Especially when the British guy is found out and then decides to "go out speaking the King's" and then something like "there's a rung in Hell reserved for people who waste good Scotch. And seeing as may be rapping on the door momentarily" and drinks the scotch.

Honestly while the movie was good, IMO it is not good enough to earn a best picture nomination. It upsets me that great movies like UP and District 9 that deserve it will get snubbed because of this movie and Nine which didn't even get good reviews by critics.

I want to get this for my grandfather. He loves war movies but he hates needless vulgarity. so basically what I'm asking is. Is there any rape or unnecessary nudity in the film?

I watched it last night and personally loved the movie. I thought pretty much everyone did a brilliant job with their roles. Hugo Stiglitz was my hero from the moment he arrived. A true badass. Waltz definitely put in one of the greatest acting jobs and character portrayals of all time. Shosanna was good, if not a bit typical for Tarantino's writing of women. I thought The Basterds were great, especially Pitt and Roth. I also thought von Hammersmark was great, honestly, I thought it was Keira Knightly at first.
I personally loved just about everything in it. The pace was good with me, I knew going in it was long, but it didn't really seem overly long. The gruesome scenes showed once again that Tarantino is money.
Overall, it's my second favorite behind Reservoir Dogs. And since everyone did their list...
Reservoir Dogs > Inglorious Basterds > Pulp Fiction > Death Proof > Jackie Brown
(I still haven't gotten around to seeing Kill Bill yet. I've been meaning to just buy it, but I keep finding just one volume at a time and was waiting for a double set to be released.)

Movie: Good. Not great, good. Waltz was excellent, everyone else was pretty good. For crying out loud, I even liked... {Spoiler}Mike Myers. But that bar scene... Ugh. The bar scene could've easily been trimmed about 10 minutes. That went on...

Loved it in theaters, picked up the dvd about an hour ago and watching it right now actually. Stands to reason I would dig it, Tarantino fan though I am, and I'd probably put it in his top three or so as well. Pretty much nothing I don't like about it.
Someone mentioned earlier the 'subplot with the Jewish girl'.. actually to me that's by far the main plot, as it's her story, and the Basterds themselves, great though they are, are supporting characters/subplot.
I agree with the love for Waltz. Hans Landa has taken his place among the great villains in move history in my view. Great, great flick.

Yeah, although I must warn you that a LOT of the movie...hell, maybe even the majority is in French and German.
