3 things
1. Why the hell does h need to throw gang signs when saying even the smallest thing?
2. Thats not Karate
3. The orginal worked because Miyagi was a little guy beating up big guys, in this one it just Jackie Chan beating up 12 year olds. I could beat up those 12 year olds... and be revered as a great warrior... thats it, I'm going to China.

I was gonna say.........Did I just see Jackie Chan beating up on some kids? Smooth
Also, watching that video posted in the 1st page, just pissed me off over the ending to the original all over again.........IF A GUY HAS HIS BODY IN A CRANE POSITION DON'T F****** RUN STRAIGHT AT HIM! I MEAN GOOD GOD
Phew, I feel much better
However, no Cobra Kai, no Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy = No Sale
Having said that, the original aint exactly a classic all things considered so I aint upset over the re-imagining

I don't know why anyone would get angry with remakes at all. Who cares? It's like a cover song, It's an opportunity to hear something you like in a different way. Some turn out good, some turn out bad.
It's not like some masked guys are gonna ransack your house to destroy your dvds of the original film.
(Also, did I see someone mention Dark knight alongside Citizen Kane and The Godfather? Jeez.)

Dude one day you'll have to learn that just because you don't like the Dark Knight, doesn't mean other people don't. I personally could watch TDK before Godfather or Citizen Kane any day. That's not to say they aren't great movies, I just like TDK better. Anyways this is neither here nor there towards the topic at hand.

Ditto. Not really interested in this remake, but remakes as a whole get way too much flak around here. For me personally, it's not really that they get done....it's HOW they get done, and the level of respect the original is treated with. It's one thing to be faithful and reverent to the source material, and to try and recreate the movie for a new generation....it's totally another to rape the idea and turn it on it's head for no reason other than "Well, it HADN'T been done like that before...." If it was good enough to make the goddamn thing a bankable classic for thirty years when it was FIRST made, then it's good enough to leave alone for your reboot/reimagining/remake. Arbitrary changes are among the things that piss me off the most about these movies. "I know, lets make that male character female, or lets change the ending to one that not only DOESN'T make a lick of sense, but that f*****g kills the series in the same movie we restarted it with!" BRILLIANT!

How can you remake "The Karate Kid" without at least giving Joe Esposito a phone call? they could try but it likely wouldn't work on me. since i joined this forum, this song only reminds me of one man ;D

Can I say I don't blame Jackie Chan for doing this? From everything I've heard his body has taken an insane beating from all the stunts.
Its just too bad they couldn't have Jackie teach him Drunken Fighting. That would have been interesting

I hate remakes for the sake of remakes. In most cases I think a movie should only be remade if it was poorly produced the first time around. That is what the whole concept is for, IMHO. If otherwise the movie being remade is a four or five star classic. No just no, leave the memories alone damn it! Because nine times out of ten the remake will suck ass when compared to the original.

They do leave the memories alone. No one's going to show up at your door with the Men In Black memory-erasing device and take the existence of the original away from you. It'll still be there, and you can still enjoy it whenever you want. And even if 9 times out of 10 a remake sucks, that still leaves 1 time out of 10 that it could be really good. So why not? If it's bad, you can ignore it and focus on the original; if it's good, you've now got 2 good movies. No real loss, but a potential win, really.

I'm pretty sure many, many movies are made at the same time, all the time. The entire movie making business doesn't focus on creating one movie at a time, so a remake (or twenty) coming out doesn't mean original and creative movies aren't in the works as well.
So, yes. There's no real loss.

I would like to take this opportunity to once again point out something that has been brought up, but needs to be emphasized. And this is aimed at the people who greenlit this in Hollywood.

The movie was originally going to be called the Kung Fu Kid but some bean counter thought the movie would make more money with the name Karate Kid.

Twas I that mentioned DK along with Citizen Kane and the Godfather. I wasn't saying it was of the same caliber of those two; I was mentioning critically acclaimed films that, due to that acclaim, aren't likely to be remade. Even if they were, it would likely be remakes along the lines of Psycho, which well received or not, hardly diminish the originals.
Karate Kid is not a film in any of the aforementioned film's league. It's not so important, special, unique or of significant quality that it can't be remade or re-imagined.
