How many bands have actually pulled it off? Here's all I got
ACDC Black Sabbath Faith No More Cannibal Corpse Dillinger Escape Plan
Maybe Iron Maiden if you want to count that first record.
Any others?

Maybe Iron Maiden if you want to count that first record. As a huge Maiden/Dickinson fan, Iron Maiden is actually my favorite album of theirs. Just my two cents. Alice in Chains could be included. Still early, but Black Gives Way to Blue is a very good album. DuVall is no Layne Staley but it's great music nonetheless.

There is no Black Sabbath with out Ozzy. Black Sabbath is probably my favorite band, and as much as I prefer Ozzy, the Dio years were quite awesome. Heaven and Hell is among my favorite albums of theirs, and the title track is in my top 10 Sabbath songs. Mob Rules and Dehumanizer are also quite underrated.

Anthrax (both the Joey Belladonna and John Bush eras are quite enjoyable, for much different reasons)
Norma Jean (O God, the Aftermath and Redeemer are, in my opinion, much better albums than Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child)
I'll agree that Dio-era Black Sab is pretty friggin' awesome.

GNR to Velvet Revolver. C'mon, three of five counts. Especially when Izzy Stradlin did some stuff with them. It'll be interesting to tell, though, if they can/do pull off another switch. RATM to Audioslave.

RATM to Audioslave. Which reminds me: the only Motley Crue album to not feature Vince Neill probably would've been better received if they had changed the band name. They sounded much different (and in my opinion, pretty damn good) with John Corabi than your typical Crue sound.

Technically, while Ted Nugent is a solo artist, his early stuff had Derek St. James as his lead singer before booting him to sing himself.

I may be in the minority here, but the Motley Crue album with John Corabi providing vocals and instruments is my favorite Crue album. It's the only one I listen to on a semi regular basis.
Of course, as soon as Vince Neil got out of the klink they dropped him with a "Thanks, but no thanks." If you haven't heard the album, take a listen to it. Here's one of my favorite tracks on it.

All very good opinions but your forgetting one key group that was forced to make a major change.
The Beatles, you know because Paul died in an accident. For more info on this look it up on wikipedia or get high and play every album backwards while your in another room listening to the Rolling Stones and it will all make sense how a nobody who is still pretending to be him to this day took his place.

Dream Theater had a different singer (Charles Dominici) on their first album before picking up James LaBrie.
