Quick game before 2009 dies tonight. Movies that somehow involve, little or big, New Years Eve. Big cultural international event, you know.
Strange Days (1995) - Sci-Fi thriller set in the "futuristic" last days of 1999.
Forest Gump (1994) - Title character and wheel chair-bound, Vietnam buddy Gary Sinise male bond with some whores at a bar.
Y2K (1999) - Crappy TV movie capitalizing on the then-Y2K computer meltdown fears. Film was worse than anything we suffered on Janurary 1, 2000.

Man, how sad is it that Strange Days was set in the future with some memory tech and it's now 10 years in the past.

When Harry Met Sally had a pivotal scene set at a New Year's party.

Mask had a scene was there was a New Years Eve dance during the summer at a camp for the blind. I think that counts.

Not movies, but Seinfeld, and That 70's Show come to mind. I'm sure there are PLENTY more, but those are the first things I thought of.

End Of Days culminated at midnight on 31 December 1999 I always wondered why the devil's deadline to do his evil deed was at midnight. I mean is that Eastern time or Greenwich time? I guess its even worse when the movie pokes fun at it.

Beat me to it on Strange Days. Such an awesome movie. You know I skipped it when it opened back in the day because really the trailer made it look rather goofy like so many cyberpunk/post-apocalyptical sci-fi pictures from the early/mid 1990s like Hackers, Tank Girl, Double Dragon, that stupid Keanu Reeves picture where he doesn't do kung fu, etc. Then I caught it a few years ago and I so absolutely surprised with how well made it was. Good cast, Slick technicals and big action from director Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break, Hurt Locker), a pretty sophisticated and compelling murder mystery script by James Cameron* that well-thought out the ethical and political implications of the sci-fi technology. Sure like any movie about the "future" it dates rather quickly (even 2001 and Blade Runner are victims) but its rather terrific. Its a good way to understand why Bigelow will probably (at this rate) be the first woman to win the Best director Oscar. *=Really, how did he go from that to Avatar's dimestore dumb down script?

Strange Days was one of my favourite films of the 90s. So underrated.

Godfather II has a fairly important scene set at a New Years Eve party.

A big part happens in a New Year Party in Boogie Nights. I think it was a New Year party.

"Entrapment" with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones was based on a heist taking place on the Y2K new year.
