Whats the difference between American Idol and X factor? I was wondering the same thing. I think Simon has more control over it and I think they allow people with other talents on

Just wait, we'll now have X-Factor! Starring...
Simon, Paula and Randy!
But yeah, Idol's done. They'll bring it back for a year afterward, but it will suck something awful and bomb.

I guess having to deal with Ellen was enough to drive him off the show.

Basically Simon Cowell has complete control of the X Factor. He does not have complete control over American Idol as Simon Fuller is the head honcho with that.

Remember when American Idol was referreed to as 'The Death Star of television"? Well, (at last), the proton torpedo has been fired into the Death Star's exhaust port, and it's only a matter of time before it blows-up!
Say what you will about him, Simon's a very smart guy, and I think he sees the writing on the wall, big time. Instead of putting-up with one more season of this garbage in 2011, he's bailing out while he can to start up his other show.
Personally, this is the first year that American Idol is coming up, and I could care less (even for the auditions)

Whats the difference between American Idol and X factor? Ok. American Idol is the US version of the now defunct UK show Pop Idol. It uses pretty much the same format. However, Simon Cowell was just a judge on the UK version, it was created by Simon Fuller. X-Factor was created by Simon Cowell (and he is a judge on it too). It is very similar to American Idol as it is a singing contest and it follows the audition/contest format. But where Idol is open only to people aged 16-28, X-Factor has 4 categories : Girls (16-25) Boys (16-25) Over 25's Groups It is not the same as America's Got Talent. Which although created by Simon Cowell, is open to all talents, not just singing.

X Factor was something Simon Cowell created when he got tired of no talent hacks winning American Idols by means of idiot teenagers with cell phones. Pretty much the same basic idea, though.

Wasn;t this inevitible for the last month? Month? I remember hearing rumors about it at least a year ago. Never did get the mass appeal of watching a bunch of nothing pretty boys and walking breast implants do karaoke, but naturally with this X-Factor thing it'll probably lead to more of the same. Which is a shame, but at least with it being more devoted to actual talent it shouldn't be as horribly bland. I think the only thing I've heard involving American Idol I've liked was hearing about how one person auditioned singing the Jigglypuff song.

I have to wonder if, between this and The Hoff leaving America's Got Talent, if the talent-style reality show is on the downspin again. Idol won't last without Simon, but Talent can live on without it's most incompetent judge.

The only good thing about The X Factor going over to the States is if Cowell takes Cheryl Cole with him. Will be funny if she still speaks in her thick Geordie (Newcastle) accent on FOX.
