It's been noted in recent weeks that TNA officials are searching high and low for new talent. While the company's main focus remains in acquiring 'big names' from year's gone by, they're still very much interested in landing talent that have fallen under the radar as it were. One such name is former WWE performer Ricky Ortiz.
According to Anthony DeBlasi of Wrestling-News.com — who has numerous sources within TNA — company officials are contemplating signing the former college athlete, who was released this past August by World Wrestling Entertainment.
Should Ortiz return to national television, it will likely be under an all-new identity as he appeared on a World Wrestling Council show just one week past his release from WWE with a drastic change in appearance. Working as a heel against former TNA performer Shane Sewell, Ortiz had noticeably cut off his trademark 'fro' and switched his in-ring attire from baggy exercise pants to standard wrestling trunks. In case you missed, you can see footage of said match at the following link.
While Ortiz has not appeared on too many independent cards since his departure from WWE, he has not hung up the boots as he is accepting bookings through talent agent Bill Behrens. ---------------------
I hate the word NEWZ, but you know. Plus I found it funny.

It sucks that Ricky is getting some negative reactions here.
Ricky Ortiz is one reason why WWE developmental can be really bad. He was called up before he was ready. Ricky Ortiz I do believe started wrestling around January 2007, and may've been training before then in OVW. He was on OVW tv for a bit, and eventually got signed by WWE out of OVW. Ortiz had a ton of charisma, and that was his main attribute while down in OVW. He was over like crazy with the fans, and he was booked very well by Al Snow and Danny Davis, by booking towards his strengths. He was then called up a good year and a half after he started wrestling.
Despite being a fan of his, he still had a long ways left to go to get more seasoning. But, with so many others before him, he got called up too early, and in the eyes of some of the fans, was ruined because of that. They see him wrestle, and they say, oh, this guy sucks. Well, what do you expect? He's came up with a year and a half's worth of experience. With Ricky going more places, I do believe he will get better, and a new persona will probably help him out a bit. But yeah, it's a shame he was spoiled in the eyes of some fans.
If you're served a chicken that's not finished, and still has pink on the inside, and you get food poisoning from it, who do you blame. The chicken, or the cook? Some people I feel will blame the chicken, and I think that's the case with Ricky.

Not only should he be hired, but I feel that money can be made off of those rally towels if TNA is willing to manufacture them.

Please, no. The guy was garbage. He was sold to us here as being very "charismatic", but that never seemed to be the case. He just flung his towel around, and that apparently constituted the entirenty of his charisma. The guy wasn't a good wrestler, and he's got no personality. This, TNA does not need.

I don't care how good he is or isn't in the ring, if he's not entertaining, I'm not interested. Hopefully it was just a case of him not really being able to play the stupid character they saddled him with, but I always got that "black hole of charisma" vibe with him. A transformation in look might change that though -- I used to feel the same about Orton but the whole viper thing completely changed that.

At first, I wanted to scream "NO" but, I wasn't big on Burke when he came into TNA either and, he proved me wrong. At the very least, I wouldn't be against him getting a chance to show he was better than WWE let him be. I mean, I wouldn't hold out hope but, hey, I have been mistaken before.

Ricky Ortiz really! My all time favorite wrestler! TNA is instantly my favorite wrestling show! This makes about as much sense as hiring Davari. I understand when TNA hired wrestlers like Scott Steiner, Sting, Booker T, and Kevin Nash because of recognition. Hardly anybody knows who Ricky Ortiz is, not to mention that he sucks. His promos are goofy (in a bad way) and his wrestling skills are marginal at best.

Your point died when you said Daivari Sheik Abdul Bashir was amazing in TNA and he fit what TNA's X-Division is all about Small Guy who can work great and has been perpetually underutilized and even if he was fired his Net Worth has gone up exponentially
