Am I the only one who liked the Fake Undertaker vs Real Undertaker feud? I admit the Undertaker jumped the shark after that, but the match and the buildup was pretty cool even if a lot of it made no sense or was simply stupid. I was interested in the sl nevertheless.

I was about 6 when it happened. I marked for what I was told to mark for.
If Hulk Hogan came out with a Swastika on his chest, and said Nazimania was running wild, I would have probably cheered. So yeah, I liked that storyline. Looking back, it seems kinda dumb. However, it did give us the jumping tombstone.

The buildup? With Leslie Neilsen doing bad comedy bits?

I heard about the angle for years without ever viewing the match and thought it sounded like a great idea and fued until I saw the match.

Yeah the match sucked, but they did have to follow the best cage match of all time plus it was more about the storyline.

I liked the feud too, and honestly, I even still like watching the Undertaker vs. Underfaker match from Summerslam 1994 (maybe for nostalgia more than anything). my friend seriously thought Dibiase's Undertaker was the real one the whole time Back then I thought DiBiase's Undertaker was the "original" heel Taker who was there from 1990-late 1991, and the babyface Taker was a different person who had replaced him.

The match had the misfortune to follow AFTER Bret Vs. Owen in the cage with the crowd going insane. After that one, everyone was tired and wanted to go home. You could hear a pin drop during the Undertakers match.

You could hear a pin drop during the Undertakers match. Just looked this one up, since it's been over a decade since I last saw it... Boy are you right. That is the quietest crowd I've ever seen. Funny thing is, prior to Takers return, they used the fake Taker in WWF magazine ads for Taker products.

also a side note: did anyone else like re-imagining this match on Super Wrestlemania, or In Your House?

I was 9 and loved The Undertaker. I remember loving the feud I was way into wrestling as a kid to consider matches bad matches. I knew some wretlers bored me so I would just root against them but I always got sucked into matches.

I remember the feud like yesterday. Undertaker disappears and Dibiase claims he brought him back. Paul Bearer promises he found the REAL Undertaker. Then the match begins..note that the REAL Undertaker is like..taller than the fake one. After that, the Underfaker wouldn't be seen again.
Until the Gang Warz Angle as Chainz.

I really enjoyed it - but the crowd are seriously confused during the match at Summerslam 94. The build up was good, but it was very obvious that the Underfaker was nothing like the real Undertaker. Was a fun feud though.

The angle interested me as a kid in a comic-book sort of way and made good usage of WWE continuity. It was a bit out there as a storyline, but you have to expect such things with a character like the Undertaker. So, having said that, I really don't think it's THAT bad of an angle. The match itself was nothing to write home about, but how many Undertaker matches are truly five-star classics? I like to think that in some far-off parallel wrestling universe, fake Undertaker and fake Kane are feuding with Fake Razor and Fake Diesel right now.

Every tv show, movie or comic book series has to do the evil twin(or evil clone or evil duplicate from an alternate dimension) thing sometime in it's existence. If it's around for long enough it will probably have to do it multiple times.
That said, it was and interesting little story line and played off as good as one of these could in the world of pro-wrestling.

Whenever the Underfaker had a promo, did they not actually have a Mark Calaway voiceover and Brian Lee had to lip-sync the promos?

I enjoyed the angle actually.
A couple of things really annoyed me about the whole thing though.
1) WWF Magazine had an article after Undertaker disappeared that was basically "Sightings of the Undertaker" and in it was some of the worst photoshopped pictures I have ever seen. It was so fake that to me.
2) Underfaker was actually pretty solid in his role at the start. They hid his face just well enough to make you wonder if he really was the real deal or not.
3) Match itself was an abortion. Problem was, that once the real Undertaker showed up, it was so obvious that Faker was just a joke imposter that it was hard to get into the match.
Still I thought it was a good WWF style storyline, it just didn't have as great as a payoff.

Yeah, but that was inevitable. The whole match was so predictable (and let's face it - two guys working Undertaker-type matches aren't going to bring the house down) that there was no way it was going to be a good match. It was obvious that Paul Bearer was going to bring out Mark Calaway and he was going to beat DiBiase's Undertaker. It might have been better to have that match halfway through the show and that way they could have had a quicker squash match, but I think they felt obligated to go longer because it was the last match.
