I have a copy of Dragon Warrior III on layaway that should be purchased by week's end.
It's 49.99, which will make it my most expensive NES cart purchase

Nice, Ive been enjoying F-1 Face too, I like that the early gameboy games had simple graphics which worked better for the gameboy.

And the first purchase of 2013 for me, after a total of 58 dollars spent (The most for any cart I've bought), Dragon Warrior III. Giving me the whole shebang for the NES

I played Gargoyles Quest on the Gameboy this weekend for the first time in forever.
Still a great game. Why did this never turn into a big franchise? Felt like it had potential.

Probably because Capcom never put as much oomph into marketing it.

Not really a "classic game", but my brother bought Tecmo Super Bowl with updated 2012 rosters. The cartridge is of the old classic NES variety and has much of the same graphics and controls as the original. The only differences is: no half-time show, they give stats instead. And you can change plays at anytime, instead of only doing it before the games start. So now we have a new TSB to play this January at our annual tournament. (Last year, the computer - as the NY Giants - beat two of us on its road to the Super Bowl.) (I asked him "does Jamaal Charles now has fumble-itis instead of Christian Okoye?" He liked that.) Just something I'd thought I'd like to share with everyone. it's a pity you can't play TB computer v computer, would like to see how it plays! but i have enough classic games to do that for me ;D Figured I'd give y'all a personal review of the game, titled "Tecmo Super Bowl 13" for the NES. (Fun thing was they threw in a pack of 1991 Pacific football cards, but whomever had them made darn sure they opened it, took a good card out and replaced it with another. I asked my brother why his Michael Carter was scuffed up and that was the reason why. They resealed the pack.) The people who are behind it are the same ones who stage Tecmo Super Bowl tournaments nation-wide during the year. (Yes, it's a big deal. Nebraska just had a tourney; the winner gets a replica WCW belt with the state and "TECMO" bedazzled inside or something. (And surprisingly, they're on Facebook at - get this - "Tecmo Super Bowl". Hard to believe, huh?) The cart is almost a translucent green, but I heard you were able to pick from one of a few colors. My brother (and I) being Packer fans, went green. -The rosters were "Updated 9.3.12", which means around the time final cuts for the current season were administered. -Playoffs were updated to accommodate the current system. -Plays can now be changed at any time during the game. If you have that worthless QB sneak and don't want it, no need to go back to the menu and fix it. They made that an option when you pause the game on the play screen. It's at the bottom under things like Punt Kick, Timeouts, etc. -NO, there is no option for a 2-point conversion, nor can you challenge plays. -Uniforms are updated, although in a Texans-Steelers game, it was pretty difficult to pick out who was who, as the unis were similar. (Ravens unis are so purple they're almost black.) -When the game hits halftime, for some reason it plays the "game over" music and the scoreboard is filled, even though you didn't play the 2nd half. (Confuses you a lot.) They will show you the statistics up to that point (the screen is black and grey, which always fooled me into thinking the TV was going bad), then the classic halftime show will begin. -So my brother auto-plays the season so we can have the playoffs set up. We draw teams, I played as the #4 seeded NFC East Champ NY Giants, and won my first game against the #6 seed Wild Card Saints 31-28. Odd thing about that: I took a 3-point lead on a FG with a minute to go and attempted an on-side kick, and who should be on the special teams but Drew Breeswho proceeded to take the ball to the house, taking a 28-24 lead. (Yes, Drew Frickin' Brees scored on a kickoff return. Very odd.) Eli Manning would hook up with Victor Cruz for the game-ending TD as time expired. -The second game I played a friend who chose the #1 seeded NFC West Champion 49ers, and he beat me 27-17. One play near the end of the game (I was going to lose anyway), I attempted a 25-yard FG. He blocked it and (I don't remember this ever happening in the original) started to run it back. We had both dropped our controls because the clock was at zero. Then he picked it up and saw he could run, well I had to go after him. I tackled him at the 5 or something. (In these playoffs, the Jacksonville Jaguars were the AFC South Champs and the San Diego Chargers won the AFC West. And the Chargers kicker Nate Keading actually booted a 70-yarder in this game. Yes, serious on all.) So my overall impression was favorable. If you want updated rosters/playoffs, this is an alright substitute, although we noticed some glitches happening on and off - when a 4th down and the screen pops up if you want to punt, sometimes it freezes on screen but another will pop up over it; a lot of times the QB's "hikehikehike" will just be one hike and silence until you snap the ball, a couple of stat categories are still incorrect as in the original, etc.) My brother asked the people that made it why they didn't do some things to fix/update the game more and they responded "Well, we can only update so much without having to re-do the entire game." Rating: 3 out of 5. Adequate if you want something "different", but not a must have.
