We talk about a lot of angles that sucked or failed, and it's rarely a wonder why. However, what are some things that sound odd on paper, but explode into awesome or even touching?
A recent example being the Rise of Miz(I have always loved the guy, but even I've been shocked).
"Spike has a crush on Molly" ended up being genuinely sweet, getting everyone involved over more, and made for pretty fun TV at times. I remember as a young semi-mark being PISSED when the Dudleyz and Hollys kept interfering in it.
Booker T and Goldust. Now, I could of pegged it for a funny team, but it ended up being hilarious, awesome, and getting both men to perhaps the highest level of face reactions in their careers. Towards the end, when Goldust let Booker T go, to not stand in his way, it was legitimately sad as hell. I didn't cry, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel for the guy.
"Okay, Vince, the number one heel in the company, you following me?" "Yep." "Okay. He marries Stephanie!" "Ooh, that'll get over. Let me get the writers on-" "Wait, it gets better. He tricks her into it, but then it turns out she willingly married him, and they were tricking you and Shane." "Even better. Linda will be involved, yes?" "Sure, but that part isn't that important. The thing is, though, that life will follow art." "...Steph will trick me? You lost me." "No no, I mean they WILL get married, after a while." "Do I have a sign on my door that says "Dumbass" or something? Quit pulling my leg."

"I get that Rocky is pissed off at the 'Die, Rocky, Die' chants but why is he talking in the 3rd person?"
-Too Cool and Rikishi being paired off. As John Madden said in The Replacements: "If there's one thing fans like more than seeing a fat man score, it's a fat man dance..."

Spike Dudley's run as the "Boss" of D-Von and Bubba. I thought it was pretty awesome, anyway.

Spike Dudley's run as the "Boss" of D-Von and Bubba. I thought it was pretty awesome, anyway. I liked it. Especially his Neidhart beard. That "WHAT" became what it has been and with such staying power. It was funny when Austin did it and even encouraged its use during his promos. "Gonna drink one beer" "WHAT" "Gonna drink two beers..." But man, saying it's annoying now is an understatement. I wish the one that had stuck around would be the invisible watch he'd listen to.

The Undertaker character in general along with the Kane character.
The Undertaker started similar to The Zombie for crying out loud. A slow, plodding, wrestler using chokes and uppercuts almost exclusively barely says a word and only gets over because the worker sold it so well.

I'm amazed that after being met with indifference through most of his WWE career, Chris Masters in finally over with the crowd because he can do tricks with his pectorals.

Jerishow. It seemed pretty disappointing when Big Show was the replacement for Edge when he got injured, but they sure as hell made it work. I'm already sad to see the (likely) end of the team.

CM Punk's rise to the main event.
I still can't believe he made it past the mid-card.

"Hey, you two, you're doing nothing. Film this bit for the Dirt Sheet." "OK. What do we do?" Zack, you say one of the funny lines that we've written. Curt, act like you think he's an idiot." "But he is an idiot." "Whatever. You found something good, Zack?" "No not really. What is up with this one? Woo... woo... woo?" "Makes me laugh. 5... 4... 3..."

And the rest is history.

After not wrestling for years and being much older than most of the roster, Finlay's success in the WWE. He's been pretty over as both a face and a heel.
Also, JBL. I wanted that gimmick to end as soon as it started but with time he became one of, if not THE best heel in the WWE.

While I like the character, Al Snow had a character that seems like it wouldn't have worked.
