"Way back" in 2004 WWE held the first Draft Lottery since the original draft in 2002. Perhaps the most shocking draft pick was SmackDown drafting Triple H.
However the next day it was revealed that new SmackDown GM Kurt Angle traded him back to Raw for Booker T & Bubba & D-Von. This outraged a lot of people. "How big of an ego does Hunter got that they gotta trade three people for HHH", etc...
Well, doesn't it make sense that Bischoff wanted to do anything to get Hunter back on Raw and Angle made him give up three valuable talents just to get HHH back?

Reminds me of a Heyman quote. I'm sure you all know it.
(It was directed at JBL)

"The only reason you're champion is because Triple H didn't want to work on Tuesdays" Am I on the money? That sounds about right. He may have included a time frame like 10 or 11 months in his quote. I'm not 100% sure.

"The only reason you were champ for a year was because Triple H didn't want to work Tuesdays" was the quote if I'm not mistaken

The thing is, they didn't push it as Bischoff overvaluing HHH and being willing to give up way too much talent to get him back. No mention of Angle outsmarting Bischoff or ripping him off. They just talked about the trade like HHH = Booker + Dudleys was an accepted fact by both sides.

I had no problem buying it. Hunter'd done more in WWE. WWE always placed singles guys as more valuable than tag teams. And at the time of the trade all three of them were tag guys.

Well Triple H was the leader of Evolution, a group that beat Dudleys several time and HHH could easily destroy Booker kayfabe-wise.

It was just a fitting epilogue to WrestleMania 19's "racism wins!" message. Booker T was only viewed as three-fifths of Hunter's worth.

The whole situation is more interesting for the rumoured backstory behind it. Where Trips, to shake things up, was actually going to be drafted to Smackdown and kicked up a fuss with Vince about it which led to his 'punishment'......jobbing to Shelton Benjamin the following week on RAW.

Well Bischoff saw Triple H as a massive loss to the brand, and decided to trade three midcarders (Booker was sat around the midcard with nothing to do at the time of the trade) to regain his biggest commodity. He was also a heel, so wanting to bring the biggest heel back makes sense

I'm sorry, I can't defend that trade.
Kurt Angle comes in as GM, a big prestigious role Heyman and Stephanie made to be important, and having just acquired your rival brand's biggest star, a former rival to your WWE Championship only a couple of years ago who you can punish him however you want to, but also gets big pops and will outdo friggin' Raw...and you trade him away ON YOUR FIRST NIGHT IN CHARGE!
It made Kurt look like a total friggin' tool. I couldn't take him seriously as the kayfabe general manager because ANYONE in that position just wouldn't do that! H
From a storyline standpoint, it fizzled any interest in doing something interesting. You hype HHH, a man who chose Raw, going to a rival brand for the first time in ages, leaving Evolution (a team HE established) and letting them out on their own, going to possibly get a shot at the WWE title (because the main event scene at that point on Smackdown was mouthwatering) and you pretty much throw it away and hit the reset button. It's crazy to me, it really is.

Kurt chose the sensible option, unlike every other WWE official.

Angle brought in three superstars in who he thought would take Smackdown to the bigger level, calling Booker the man "who will main event Smackdown for years to come"

I think the HHH for Booker/Dudleys trade is the equivalent of the Gasol for a bag of stale peanuts trade the Lakers did with the Grizzlies in the NBA. I don't see how that was even in the ballpark of an equal trade. The only one who ended up getting a boost out of this was Triple H, like he needed it. It just seemed like a colossal waste of time to even do this.

When Triple H said "Guys like you (Booker) don't win World Titles" he meant that entertainers don't win World Titles, it had nothing to do with Book's skin color! *rolls eyes now*
