I've actually seen a copy of Stadium Events at Pink Gorilla, a local retro & import gaming store, sell for $28,000. So, that guy got a bargain.

Other than Nintendo World Championships 1990, I believe Stadium Events is the rarest US NES game out there. I believe only a few hundred are known to exist, since Nintendo bought the rights shortly after release to issue it as World Class Track Meet. A few hundred were sold at Woolworth's stores.
The closest I ever came to getting something like that was getting a ROB complete with Gyromite AND Stack-Up (both boxed with all the pieces, ROB came in the rare small box without the NES system) for a cool $90.

The closest I ever got to something that rare was actually playing the 1990 World Championship game at the 1990 Nintendo Powerfest. I still have memorabilia from that great day.

Suppose I wouldn't expect a woman with the username "Lace Thongs35" to know much about the video game realm in general.

I checked out some of the listings from the guy who bought the $13K bundle, and he's selling a separate copy of the Stadium Events manual. Not the game, just the manual. He's asking for $4,500. And he'll probably get it.

Just wanted to bump this since I just read another article about a copy of Stadium Events being sold on eBay. What makes this one unique, though, is that it was still in its original shrink wrap. Even had a price sticker on the outside (sold for $29.99 originally). The final value: $41,300. Link to storyLink to auction

Hooray! I'm glad he got a taker for it, he deserves it. Shame it wasn't in the original wrapping.

I don't know, the game sounds kind of stupid. The rarest game I have is Earth Bound, although I really should pick up Metroid Trilogy.

I don't know, the game sounds kind of stupid. The rarest game I have is Earth Bound, although I really should pick up Metroid Trilogy. There were supposed to be 10 games by Ban Dai for the "Family Fun Fitness" pad (which is why the game is labeled as "Series 2", it was the 2nd of the 10 games). Nintendo bought the rights to both the series and the pad technology and thus the much more common "Power Pad" and "World Class Track Meet" were born. The first game, "Athletic World" is supposedly not that rare since it was out for a longer amount of time. "Stadium Events" was yanked pretty damn quick and was on a limited run from the start. The other games in the series were released by Nintendo and not BanDai.
