I just love how school is about the only place you can be beaten, tormented, sexually harassed, etc., and no one does anything about it. This deserves to be repeated, because it's absolutely true. I was constantly pushed around and bullied, threatened, intimidated, and made to feel afraid to go to school during most of my high school years. Why? Because I was a smaller kid who seemed to be in a good mood all the time. If there's one thing a bully hates, it's a small kid smiling. I never wanted to be a so-called "snitch", but once the threats got severe (gang-bangers threatening to jump me after school), I finally said something to the school administration. They never did anything and I left the school after more harassment. Needless to say, that kind of shit happening to other kids to this day really pisses me off. I hope those little bitches really think about what the hell they did to that poor kid.

In the story they refer to her as pretty. That's a weird thing to say like if she was ugly it would be different. Sadly, that's probably the only reason it's news. When tragedy strikes a pretty white girl it's big news. I think it's odd that she was being bullied for dating a popular guy not long after she started going to the school. Either high school has changed in the 5 years that I've been out, or that school was completely different from mine. She basically got bullied to the point of suicide because she was too popular. The more I think about this, the more it bothers me. I can understand that getting bullied by seemingly everybody at school can be horrible for a teen. I also understand that when you're 15 years old you treat every little thing like it's the end of the world. But this chick is being treated like a hero because she hung herself. Sorry, I have a friend that killed himself years ago so I know exactly what kind of trauma her family is going through. It's a very selfish thing to do especially for a kid. I also refuse to believe that everybody hated that girl. There's no way. Unless she acted really really bitchy, there's no way that she didn't have friends at that school. I mean, if the popular girls are picking on her then she could've started hanging out with the goths or nerds or something.

A lot of the time when I was bullied, the teachers knew about it and some even took part in it!!! I remember teachers laughing at me over something a bully had said. I remember times sitting in a classroom being laughed at by everyone there, including the teacher. I frankly think that's disgusting. Many teachers don't want to get involved because they feel they shouldn't have too or it's not "their job". Some simply don't even care.

I also love how in school they force homework and other crap down your throat to prepare you for the "real world," yet they tolerate their students bullying others. In the "real world" that person would get fired or arrested.

I doubt the bullying is the sole cause of her suicide. Most suicidal people have major psychological issues. I'd bet anything she had some sort of bipolar or boderline personality disorder that was undiagnosed or not brought up. That being said, the bullying a person with that is like dropping the gasoline and lighting a match to that powderkeg.

I mean, if the popular girls are picking on her then she could've started hanging out with the goths or nerds or something. It's a territorial thing. Seems to me by reading the article that she got involved with this popular clique by dating an ex of one of the leaders. So the clique, seeing a potential threat to their popularity, decided to make her life hell. Trust me when I tell you that, especially in high school, that type of psychological, emotional and physical warfare can break your spirit. Anyone who can needs to run down an episode of Law and Order: SVU called Mean. It was I think in their fourth season and is very similar to what happened here.

Let's be very clear on one item. Statutory rape is consensual sex between someone above and someone below the age of consent.
I don't know much about bullying. I wasn't bullied and I certainly wasn't one. I had a friend who was often bullied, as long as he wasn't with me. I made this point to him. I said, "Just stick around me, man, they're gonna get you if you don't". He thought this was horseshit and took off away from me. Literally under two minutes later he was laying on the ground because the shop assholes specifically made paddles to whack him with,

How do you prove statutory rape when the alleged victim is dead? I'm assuming nobody else was witness to this, and the victim didnt come forth, and I don't think theres any evidence other than 3rd party accusations that can be brought against the 17 year old.
And since this wouldn't be much of an issue unless she killed herself Im not a fan of bringing charges against the bullies because this stuff goes on every day and nobody takes note until the victim under her own will killed herself. I don't know how you can press charges on this set of bullies based on what someone did totally exclusive of the accused.
Also, about a half a year earlier a young kid killed himself in Massachusetts after being bullied... and few make note of it.

Simply to throw every possible charge you can at whomever you can and hope as much sticks as possible. This then gives the allusion of something being done to curb the problem.

As I hinted at earlier up thread, I think the rape charge, in at least one case, is bogus if she consented, but since she is dead, we have no way of knowing, so the older guy gets screwed for the rest of his life. Shocking. Look, I'll say this again, the girl did NOT deserve the bullying, especially since it led her to suicide. But... something that bears in mind is European cultures tend to be a bit less prudish about sex than Americans are. Regardless, maybe she liked the guy, trusted him, and there you go. We're getting SERIOUSLY off topic here, so I'll drop it at that.

But like I said the kid was only 17 himself and they were schoolmates....it seems really f***ing crazy to be charged with a sex crime for having sex with a schoolmate especially when it was consensual sex...

I was bullied quite a bit growing up (things thrown at me, mock secret admirers, daily insults, weekly assaults, girls mocking my lack of attractiveness, etc.), and nothing was ever done about it and a few times teachers made the situation worse. I toughed it out and got the hell out of town, but my 3 younger brothers still went to the same school. My youngest brother got suspended once for telling a teacher off that he overheard making fun of me 10 smurfing years after I graduated from that cesspool. Something different must be done to deal with this phenomenon.

I'll quote one of my old high school friends here: These people should never be allowed to have jobs and should be left on the street kicking cans.

I am watching CNN right now and they are saying that South Hadley High School has announced that they have suspended 9 more students from the school but none of the charged students have been punished by the school at all. Who do they think they are fooling? NOW they care? This is something that went down a month ago!!! This finally has been made a really big deal by the media and they want to look like they are doing something.

Yeah your right...they are only doing this because this whole thing has made them look bad. My god, this school is almost as bad as the kids who drove this poor girl to take her own life.

I feel for her. I got bullied in the school in my hometown and then we moved when I was 13. It was a fresh start but the first day I stuck up for a kid who was being picked on. I instantly stated getting picked on and after about a month of it I had enough and tried to suffocate myself.
Fast forward to my junior year of high school and I moved again. I went back to my old hometown and all the kids who had picked on me when I was younger wanted to be my friends. I established a reputation for beating up bullies in the school.

Right. However, kids, kids, KIDS! are now being brought up on child porn charges, making them sex offenders for life, when some chick at school takes a picture of her breasts and it inevitably gets sent all over school. They overreact to fake problems and the real ones never get solved. "Child porn is the only crime it's illegal to see caught on tape" Doug Stanhope.

I was a target of bullying when I was in school. But what those "mean girls" did to her and no one did anything to stop it? I hope that they get the book thrown at them. There should be really harsh laws for bullies in the world.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: public schools are nothing more than glorified, minimum-security prisons, except the lives of convicted criminals tend to be valued more.
