Easy to sit here in hindsight and say you wouldn't have done it, but if you look at TV ratings for the angle, you can easily see it had the audience's attention. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clash_of_the_ChampionsIt didn't become a bad angle until the stupid payoff. The magic tricks were deeply stupid, but the angle still could've had a decent ending and made money. People were obviously interested in the Scorpion's identity at the time.
