I found it interesting in retrospect that the first 3 matches involved the guys who would pretty much take over as the top guys (shawn, taker, bret) defeating guys who were pretty big stars of the previous era (santana, roberts, piper).

For me the second best Mania, next to Mania III - and first one I watched on Sky TV. I loved the Warrior return but wanted to see Hogan vs Flair, the original main event! Also, does anyone know why the Bulldog vs Berzerker match never happened?

All I gotta say is Bret vs. Piper = 5/5! That, and Warrior's return, made WM8 a classic! YAY

8 is middle ground for me, 9 was terrible and 10 was one of the best. Bret v. Piper was defiantly the best match on the card and Savage v Flair was 10x better than the actual main event. But other than those 2 matches nothing really sticks out to me that I can remember off the top of my head. A very normal Wrestlemania for me.

Was gonna post exactly this. I view WM8 as a transitional Mania in that respect, as the next generation, made up of your HBKs and Brets would prove themselves not long after this event. As for the event itself, I always liked it. I think it would be viewed a lot more favourably if Flair/Savage main-evented. The Hogan/Sid match was terrible, and having the main event of your biggest show of the year end in DISQUALIFICATION? Really???

Wasn’t Hogan booked to win the match, but Justice kicked out (against the script) as he was due to be suspended for alleged steroid abuse? This explains why Wippleman jumped in the ring and hit Hogan with the briefcase to cause a DDQ when Justice kicks out and the botched run in by Papa Shango. Great WM overall but main event was dreadful. Agree Hart v Piper was best match along with Shawn Michaels v Tino Santana. Lest we forget it was also the debut of Lex Lugar and the WBF!

the card should've had Flair vs Hogan and Macho Man vs Jake Roberts no DQ Piper vs Bret was amazing as was Savage vs Flair Agreed. They could've built up the Roberts/Savage feud some more to a huge showdown at Wrestlemania. On the other hand, while the buildup to Flair vs. Savage was a bit rushed, they put on a hell of a show.

I didnt want hulk to leave, hulk and sid was ok. savage vs ric was great,at the time i wanted hulk vs flair bret vs piper and tito vs hbk were good. i wish the rest of the card was stronger, and bulldog's match wasnt cancelled.
despite all that,i liked this wm.
how come flair didnt unveil the picture of liz to the world like he said he was??they didnt even mention that at mania but talked about it alot leading up to it.

The first Wrestlemania I ever did see and as such is one of my favourites. Bret v Piper and Savage v Flair are two classics in my view, and I also enjoyed Undertaker v Jake and the Natural Disasters v Money Inc. Sid v Hogan was also fun, and the Warrior comeback was a nice moment to finish the show even if he had "lost some weight."
It is a shame it wasn't Marty Jannetty v Shawn Michaels as planned as that would have made it even better. Also LOD really should have had a match on the card, as should Davey Boy Smith. The eight man tag should have been dropped to allow this.
Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon playing off one another flawlessly on commentary also really adds to this Mania.

It had its moments the Piper v Hart match was the only really good match on the card
