Yes, another one of these threads, and I think I may've brought this up before, but I'm also bored. Anyway, TNA hasn't even had its first Monday Impact, and they already screwed up.
When WWE announced Bret Hart, they did it a few weeks in advance, to plant the seed. Then, they have Vince McMahon tease it until the end of that segment with him and Shawn. They also have the potential feud ender between DX & Jeri-Show and the feud ender for Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton. So, you have two feuds coming to a head this Monday, and the return of Bret Hart.
TNA has, Hulk Hogan's gonna be there. Live. Did we mention Hogan is coming? Hulk Hogan and TNA, isn't that great? Hulk Hogan. TNA. RAHHH!
That's it. They did a somewhat decent job of building towards the Knockout Tag Title match, but that was just officially announced at New Year's Knockout Eve, and I don't think that drew a big audience, due to the fact that it was on New Year's Eve, lol. They also just announced that the winner of the tournament, ODB, will be facing Tara. Well, that's fine. But, what about building something for this Impact episode on the last Impact before the pay per view.
I was thinking that Bobby Lashley vs AJ Styles could be the main event, and say, the winner of this tournament will face AJ on January 4th's Impact. Say a few people will have title matches on that Impact, and build those matches. But, TNA just threw all their eggs in one basket and thought, Hulk Hogan. Hulk Hogan is big, but what else is there.
It seems like the show is Hulk Hogan, with other exciting matches.

Because it is the Hulk Hogan show with other exciting matches. Which may be good and may be bad. I'm switching back and forth between the two shows myself.

It has an very late WCW-esque feel. Let's not advertise our matches cause god forbid the wrestling fans having more than a 2 minute attention span

I can see it both ways. WWE is saying you need to watch us to see X, Y and Z, while TNA is taking the you don't know what it going to happen so you have to watch and be surprised tactic.
If some of the rumored surprises actually happen than I understand TNA doing that. Also, they treat the Knockouts' Division as equal to the Men's (and ratings back that up) so, they were hyping some of their highest drawing segments. They also have been teasing Joe cashing in his Feast or Fired shot that night.

Anyone who has watched IMPACT! since the last MONTH knows that they did not give a damn about Final Resolution and they just build up Hogans Debut.
What is Kevin Nash talking about?
What will Foley do?
Is the NWO coming back?
Is Jarrett back for good and how will he react to Hogan?
Is this NOTHING?
This is 100% better build then two lame guest host saying Bret Hart´s name.

The key is what the mainstream audience's opinions on the Hulkster is. Do they now more about the legendary Hulk Hogan who broke box offices and had worldwide fame during the 80's and 90's? Or the one who had a messy divorce, whose son who left his friend a vegetable, the pop star wannabe daughter, and is physically broken down? When Michael Vick went back to the NFL, he had as many supporters as protesters. The arena of public opinion can make or break you. You go from hero to goat in record time.

Well, the whole Hogan hook is pretty much the reason why they're gonna be on Monday in the first place, so I guess it makes sense.
And in any case, right now they're also shilling the two women's title matches and the X-Division in the commercials along with Hogan.

But those surprises are being leaked out on the internet. There are no surprises being built up on the show. TNA can't put their hope on the internet. They need to get their viewers watching, and get out on some commercials what else is going to be on that show.
The Knockouts will help. I think on top of the two title matches, they could have a contender's type match, and maybe have Roxxi sit in on commentary with her injury if she can make it, to show how much heart and how hard working these women are. I think the Beautiful People are definitely a good draw for the guys, so having them in that match, or at least having Velvet at the end of the Battle Royal or something, or even winning the whole thing, would be a boost.
One thing I hope they bring in, and I guess this might end up turning into fantasy booking island, is have the Young Bucks debut. Have them against the British Invasion, maybe on one of the unopposed hours, and have them almost go the time limit with them, and the Brits f*** them over. So, bring in the hot new tag team, and try to keep the fans attention with a strong outing with the Young Bucks.

I don't think it really matters if the casual audience likes Hogan. Sadly, his troubles have actually kept his name fresh in the mainstream. I am sure Vince is very curious if his new younger audience gives a damn about Bret Hart. For better or worse, casuals and kids know who Hogan is. Tiger Woods has seen his popularity go into the tank, but you bet there will be a huge audience that will watch him play golf when he rejoins the tour. |

I've heard they are going to have a ton of surprises which will draw people to the show after it has already started. WCW used this tactic very well in the late 90s.

I will say that even though the hype has been all Hogan, TNA is making the most out of it. I've seen the commercial at least half a dozen times today and I've watched about 4 hours of TV today (ESPN, Nickelodeon, tidbits of others)

I think Lesnar is faking this illness.. he'll show up on Impact, finger poke of death and HULK HOGAN the NEW UFC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION...

I am very excited with impact going live this monday night. I think WWE will be closely watching the TNA show on at least 1 tv backstage to see what happens. but as of right now i see as TNA having the better announced matches right now with the steel cage match with the tna x-division stars in it. and both of the knockout matches should be pretty good also in addition to all the new talent that is gunna show up at the tapings. just keep in mind that bret hart is JUST guest hosting raw he isn't actually gunna fight at least not yet. and I do not see DX losing the jerishow since vince hates title changes on raw but they might have the womens title change due to melina being hurt. but anyways I will be DVR RAW as I will be in attendence at the live TNA show which should be an awsome experence.

How much "everything can happen" does TNA have, though? Impact, the sole show, isn't live every week. While yes, this show will be full of surprises hopefully, it isn't like WWE where huge pockets and being live EVERY week means that "everything can happen" on a weekly basis, whether it does or not. It's often said TNA looks for short term benefits over long term rewards, and I do hope they do well, but I worry they are not thinking this through. |

One of my worries that TNA is going to blow their load Monday instead of making future suprises and developments mean more. It's sorta like the time WCW had the rebirth episode of Nitro where Russo and Bischoff return. It was filled of insider storylines, wrestler debuts and returns, and love letters to the IWC. But it didn't improve their business because they couldn't top that night. TNA can do a show filled to the brim with the same thing but is it going to boost their overall business? Buzz and word of mouth only works if the viewer is willing to open their wallet to spend on the product. WCW taught fans why bother watching the ppvs when the payoff was going to happen on Nitro. TNA fell into that same funk until a few months ago.

Since it has been suggested on Impact that the NWO might be back together, I was just completely turned off by whatever this surprise is supposed to be. And I don't care much for Foley so I don't care how he reacts to this. Since this episode will reair on Thursday, I'll just watch it then. I don't know, maybe I like knowing WHO will be there, like Bret Hart on Raw, but I don't know WHAT is going to happen, which is why my interest for that is peaked. There have been a few names mentioned for Impact, but nothing confirmed (as in by TNA by their website or on TV), and not be honest, none of the names interest me. Some are guys who have been around for awhile and right now the younger guys in both companies are my favorites to watch.
