Not sure how many will remember this one, as it is pretty obscure. For months there was a character shown backstage, mostly on Heat-which was still a semi-respectable show at the time-although I think he may have had a couple of appearances on RAW or Smackdown. He would walk up to various people backstage and incite them to the ring: "I just heard So and So say Such and Such about you!" type of stuff. And whenever he was asked who he was, he would reply "I'm Just Joe." This went on for who knows how long until wrestlers started challenging "Joe" to get in the ring himself, which he actually did! And much to my surprise, he was actually pretty decent in the ring to boot. I recall him wrestling a couple of matches with Dean Malenko that were actually pretty solid, and at one point he grabbed Malenko's lightweight title belt and held it up, as if indicating a feud to come (I had been hoping to see the belt more on television at he time, as I thought it had potential to be entertaining). I remember he even had a nifty entrance video that showed a picture of him with a cartoon word bubble that said "I'm Just Joe" over his head. He was even announced as "Just Joe" as if that was his full name. He performed a handful of matches before vanishing into nothingness, leaving one to wonder just what the hoo-ha it was all for at all. I also seem to recall that at one time the plan had been for Just Joe to be revealed as the one behind the "G TV" segments, perhaps leading to a significant push for him. I believe G TV has already been inducted, so perhaps Just Joe should as well.
Honestly, I have no idea who this guy was or what the whole story about him was. He had some decent skills in the ring, might even have been great if he had been given more development and time on television. And the ring name Just Joe, while memorable, was still godawful lame. Anyone know anymore about him?
