When Rocky Maivia first debuted, I thought "This guy is awful, but he's going to become a huge star anyway, because WWF has already decided to make him one, so they'll keep giving him second chances and opportunities long after anyone else would have been given up on, until the fans finally shut up and love him the way they're supposed to." It worked, and while he did improve tremendously, nothing ever really washed that taste out of my mouth. I get a certain sense of deja vu from Randy Orton. So did I. In fact, I can pinpoint the exact moment when I got that feeling: a young Randy Orton returning JR's cowboy hat on Raw

I liked the rock in 2000, but by the end of the crap invasion I hated him. I knew he was always going to come out on top, I knew every time his music hit he'd have the last word, I knew exactly how the rest of the show was going to pan out when he was involved.

I liked him up until the Invasion, when he became a Cena-esque, pandering, nice guy babyface. After that it was all downhill until he turned heel and became awesome again. Exactly, during and after the invasion he became a parody of the rock, a toned down suck up version who'd kissed babies and eat apple pie, couldn't stand him.

It's not bad as far as Michael Bay films go, I guess.

his matches were average. I enjoyed him playing off Mick Foley and the Hurricane and Hulk Hogan. That's about it.

The only version of him I liked was Hollywood Rock. The other versions I couldn't stand. Horrible, catch phrased laden promos and sub-par in ring skills. I agree with you. He was almost as annoying and stale as Cena is now.

The Rock is the greatest entertainer and most charismatic wrestler of all time.

He's like fluffy cotton candy. I love it while I'm eating it, but am ultimately left unsatisfied. He was tons of fun to watch, but I don't feel anything from him in retrospect... he didn't make an impact on me, or on my view of wrestling or anything like that. So... I don't know. Entertaining, but for me, forgettable.

I always liked The Rock...the man was hilarious as a heel ;D 2003 Hollywood Rock was one of the best heels in WWE bar none. He was also funny as a babyface when he had a good heel to work off of.
His interactions with dorky heel Angle were always entertaining.

He was alright...but he became stale really easily, which I guess is the reason he was turned so often from face to heel.

I feel all the hate for the rock came when he became The Star. People loved this funny midcard to upper midcard in the late 90's but as soon as he becomes the main player and everyones favourite people started to hate on him. I've come to think that some peoplle just pay out stuff that is popular, example people hate mainstream music because its mainstream but like all the little bands no1's heard of.
I loved the Rock in my top 3 possibly number 1

No one except maybe Steve Austin holds a candle to his mic skills. He always had the crowd at the palm of his hands. He was funny as hell. He's one of the extremely few I liked as both a heel and a face.

His crowd control has so far been completely unmatched. The answer is obvious. The best to ever do it.

I seem to recall Mick Foley taking credit for convincing the Rock that his character was just too mean to be a good guy, so perhaps we have him to blame for it. Regardless, I've always been convinced that it was his change persona more than anything else that ultimately led to the fans turning on him.

Outside of maybe Hogan ( and even then it's a tossup), he was the most charismatic guy to ever grace a ring.
The complaints about both his in-ring stuff and his repetitive catchphrases are perfectly valid.. but the thing is, it didn't even matter. When he talked about being the 'most electrifying man in sports entertainment', that wasn't just a great nickname, it was the absolute truth.
If there was any one guy you could point to when saying someone had the mythic IT factor, it was him.
Yup, I liked him. He certainly wasn't the best in any one category, and there are other guys I preferred at various times, but the dude was an incredible talent.

I missed alot of the attitude era. I saw The Rock here and there and thought he was alright. Definetely a cut above the rest.

I was never his biggest fan, especially after 1999. His catchphrases and insults got way too lame and ridiculous around the early 2000s too. We were subjected to such gems as "How's your lips?" and "Popcorn fart". I didn't dislike him as much as I do Cena, but after he left the NOD, The Rock just didn't do it for me.
