From another post:
I went to see Sin City today. I'm sure others here have seen it, so I have to ask: was it wrong of the wife and me to be literally laughing OUTLOUD at the over the top violence? It was so absurd that by the time of the third or fourth beheading that we were looking for the vendor selling the "Been there, done that, got the t-shirt" t-shirts.
I don't even know if I liked the movie or not it was so stupidly violent. I can't believe that thing escaped with an R-rating. I wasn't so much offended by the violence as I was amused that we were supposed to, I think, take it seriously...

RD, the dialogue is taken word for word from the comics. Yes, the violence is over the top, and its supposed to be that way. It's supposed to be like a 30's Film-Noir flick with a ton of violence. You are telling me you didn't like what Marv did to Kevin?
PS: Alba was pole dancing so its automatically good.

But I hate her, because she has a no nudity clause in her contract.
You're playing a stripper, and you admitted to sleeping around Hollywood. Take your damn top off.
Anyway, I loved Sin City. Of course, I'm a rabid fan of the books. I did think that Michael Madsen's acting was beyond horrible, and Clive Owen wasn't anything special either.

Alba did not sleep around Hollywood, I know she's better than that. She doesn't want to get naked because she says it would be awkward for her dad and mom to see her like that.

Uh, the link (when up) had quoted her saying that she was done sleeping around. Basically, she was going to get married when she was 18 to a Dark Angel co-star. The relationship ends, she's devastated, and sleeps around for a couple of years. Now she's going to get married again or has a boyfriend or whatever.

For that, I guess, you could say it was good. It did not appeal to me, though. To each his own. RD

That movie is AWESOME. I went to see it a second time last week. Since I own every SC comic there is, I knew I'd love it way before it premiered. However, I'm sure there were a lot of disappointed people who went to it expecting... A) Some giant mainstream pop-culture celeb party w/ Willis, Alba, Murphy, etc. The trailers seemed to be marketed that way. B) That this was a normal Tarrentino film since his name was attached , and that he was behind the whole thing and this was the Pulp Fiction: Part II. and C) The violence. It isn't Scarface-style action and violence. It's comic book-style violence. It shouldn't be compared to other gritty crime/action movies, the same way the Spider Man saga shouldn't be compared to a Discovery Channel documentary on tarrantulas. I mentioned this to RD last night, that if you are unfamiliar with the series and haven't seen the movie yet, go pick up one of the graphic novels first. You'll get a taste of what the whole "Sin City universe" is like, and they are a cheap, very enjoyable read. Overall, I give the series two thumbs up. I've heard "Jackie-Boy" gives it one thumb and one stump up.
