Hey there-
I've posted my review of Episode III (I liked it just a little - lol), so I thought I'd start this thread so we could discuss it at length.
Fire at will!

I'm seeing it on Saturday. Should be good, right?
I decided not to go on opening day because:
I enjoy sleep. I'd be mobbed by people far more nerdy than I. I just didn't want to.

I thought it was complete bantha fodder. Where was Jar Jar Binks?
Kidding.
I thought EP 3 was actually pretty good, one thing that kind of got lost in translation was the fact that the first half never really got it's feet off the ground. Sure, it was mildly entertaining seeing Anakin's strange dreams (Wet and Dry. OHHHH!!!! BA DA BING BADA BOOM!), but it didn't really turn me on as much as Ep 4, 5, or 6's story.
But then...When they find out where Grevious is....Man. I SWEAR I WET MY PANTS! I HAD TO KEEP PINCHING MYSELF TO SHOW THAT THIS WASN'T A DREAM! The scenes where they continualy kill the Jedi are gold, and the music went along perfectly. Oh yes, and this scene was quite bonechilling as well.
(We go to the jedi counsel room, where all the younglings are hiding)
Youngling: ANAKIN! We're scared, we don't know what is happening, please save us!
(Anakin's lightsaber goes on)
Bonechilling! Another thing is the Jedi battle between Obi-Wan and Vader. Great diolauge, wonderful effects. Good, good, stuff. But I swear, it fails in rivalry to the battle between Palpatine and Yoda. DAMN!
I think I've proven my point, Deal.

I swore this months ago when I heard about the script of the 3rd film and it's comming true now. All the smarky Star Wars nerds that have been badmouthing Lucas for the last two movies are going to wet thier pants for this one. The only real reason? The bad guys win. Just like Empire, which as we all know, is the "coolest" of the first 3 films. Period. End of story. Yawn. Can you say PREDICTABLE? ? And to think wrestling smarks get a bad rap.

That's the wrestling business in a nutshell. When the "bad guys" start getting over they suddenly become "cool". Oh, well.
I found Episode 3 to be decent. I'll admit right now that I'm not a Star Wars fan and haven't seen the original 3 films (which I will be seeing now that I've seen the prequels). The acting was terrible in this one (with the exception of the line, "BUT YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!")
Overall, however, I found the movie to be enjoyable. I'm not a Star Wars, um, guy (nerd, freak, trekkie, etc), so I don't get the fascination with all the robots and the hairy big foot guys, but the story was good and has some great Biblical and Shakespearian themes throughout that I find interesting.
2 1/2 stars out of 5.

It was great, but I was pissed that Grievous wasn't as cool as he should be, like he was in Clone Wars.
And Natalie Portman was again terrible. Worse than Michael Madsen in Sin City.

This thread in in dire need of a Star Wars mark:
First, let me say that I actually enjoyed Phantom Menace. I wanted to kill Jar Jar for the first 10 minutes he was on screen but after that, once he was used more sparingly, found him very funny and felt he served as effective comic relief. I also enjoyed Attack of the Clones immensely; it improves with each viewing and you can easily distract yourself from the crappy dialouge during the Padme-Anakin scenes by staring at Natalie Portman's perky nips.
As for Revenge of the Sith (SPOILERS by the way)
HOLY lots of manure! First off, I have no idea why everyone is complaining that the film gets off to a slow start because seconds after the opening text crawl you are immersed in the greatest action sequence in Star Wars history. Five minutes into the movie and it was already better than Phantom Menance. After Palpatine's rescue it does slow down for a bit, but I think it seems slower than it actually is due to the intensity of the opening sequence and the anticipation of Anakin's turn.
There were some things I didn't like. I thought both Kashyyk and Obi-Wan's battle with Greivous left alot to be desired. Grevious didn't really live up to the hype and I think Chewie would have been better utilized as a brave Wookie in battle rather than just standing next to Yoda the whole time. Maybe Obi-Wan could have confronted Grevious on Kashyyk to give more time to the Wookie battle, but then George Lucas wouldn't be able to sell any toys of the lizard Obi-Wan rides. The acting and dialouge weren't anything spectacular, but I wasn't expecting much (Star Wars isn't exactly known for snappy dialouge and tour de force performances) and they showed a marked improvement over Attack of the Clones.
As for what kicked ass. Every scene with Palpatine, the way he manipulates the entire galaxy for his means was mesmerizing. Everything after Anakin embraces the dark side. The terrified youngling's pleas being met with the ignition of a lightsaber. The final epic battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin, ending with a limbless Anakin, burning and screaming his hatred for his former master. And interspersing the birth of Luke and Leia with the birth of Vader as we know him was genius on Lucas's part. And the final scene, Owen and Beru Lars holding the infant Luke and looking into the twin suns of Tatooine, breathtaking. When the credits started I didn't want to leave the theatre because I knew Star Wars was finally over, but what an ending it was. Everything from the prequels and the original trilogy being tied together with the coherance that it did will renew the naysayers' faith in the franchise and left the true fans like myself with the closure we needed.
May the Force be with us all.

Won't see the movie, no interest in seeing any of them actually... and for the first time in my life, I think that might actually negatively affect my chances of getting laid. This Star Wars Mania has to STOP!

Like Hobo Joe, I too am VERY confused by all the accusations I'm hearing that the first 45 minutes were slow. I just don't see HOW. We have a crazy ass space sequence, plenty of droids getting lopped up, a good saber duel, an awesome scene with Grievous in the control room, and the totally kickass 'escape' from the ship.

Episode Three is definitely one of the top 6 Star Wars films of all time. Seriously though, I loved the movie. The more I think about it, the cooler it is. Opening sequence with the dogfight was cool. The rescue attempt scene was great, complete with sassy-talking battledroids ("Ow, ow, ow." "You're welcome."). My favorite parts of that scene were when they were running down the elevator shaft, then the ship corrected itself and they were sliding, then the super battledroid kicking R2. Great stuff. Natalie Portman wasn't used all that much in this movie, and when she was used, it was decent at best. I agree that I expected Grievous' part in the movie to be cooler. I never watched the Clone Wars show so I didn't get much of a background on him. I guess when you have 4 lightsabers vs. 1, you kind of have to make the fight quick or it'll be less believable. Yoda was cool as always, that little kid Jedi schooling most of the clone troopers before getting killed was tight, Palpatine's face melting was creepy, Anakin's flesh melting was creepier, Darth's "Nooooooo!" was cheesy. I mean, I would have accepted "Aaaaaaagh!!!," but "Nooooooo!"? Come on.

Entertaining, the best of the new 3, but way too much CGI.
And why the Frankenstein impression when Vader breaks free from the table.

I was actually pretty happy with the movie, and I really expected to be disappointed, in some ways. There were problems here and there, but all in all it came together to make a fun little movie.
Though, RD, you have my eternal respect for highlighting Hardware Wars. I also agree with the reviewer who said Porklips Now needs a DVD release. Classic stuff.

So in the end, the Jedi are a bunch of self involved jerks who expected the galaxy from Anakin and gave him nothing in return. Several times Anakin stands in front of Obi-Wan and talks about how he's frustrated with the Council, how he's scared of his visions and how much of a pal the Chancellor is to him. Obi-Wan can only talk to him about the war. Yoda offers only trite talk about learning to let go. No one seemed willing or able to take some time to sit down and level with Anakin. Obi-Wan can talk all he wants about how he loved Anakin, and I believe he meant it, but he has no idea what words like love or brother really involve. He can't: from early childhood he's been taught to treat emotion as either a distraction or a path to the dark side while Anakin's problems were entirely emotional in nature.

More questions that answers IMO.
How can Vader meet his daughter and spend about an hour with her, episode IV, and not sence who she is, but ten seconds with Luke and he knows he is his father?
That ship was sure in good nick in episode IV considering they must have been using the same one for about 20 years!
Death star technology and building must have greatly imporved, as It must have taken 20 odd years to build the first one and about 20 minutes and a bit of sticky back plastic to make the second one.
Loved the way they throw in the line about speaking from the after life, to explain how they couldn't in the first 3, but seemed perfectly normal in 4 5 and 6!
first half of the film was on a par with 1 and 2, second half should have been the best hour of Star Wars ever, and was not far off IMO just my $0.02.

I think I found it slow because the space battle went a little too long, and just didn't seem to have much UMPH. The Dooku-Anakin fight was good, and Palpatine's instructions to Anakin ("Kill him!"), combined with Dooku's reaction ("WHAT?!") were great. Actually, everything with Palpatine was really good. Can't wait to see it again. RD

That's so funny - Blade and I were saying the same thing last night. LOVED the Tarkin cameo, though. 8) RD

I saw it last night at 10pm... I thought it was ok at best no way better than episode 4-6.
I wish they kept Anakin's eyes orange and red during his dark side fighting instead of just the one scene.
