How about that, big Daddy RD?
I thought it would be the storyline to pull wCw out of it´s slump, but then too many things were done wrong too quickly, like making the old school wrestlers the faces, and the egos like Totally Buff who doesn´t want the fresh blood to get over.
What do you think?

It could have been great, in my opinion. But then, the leaders and tops of the New Blood were like, Jeff Jarrett and Shane Douglas and Dustin Rhodes.

I think a push for Lash LeRoux as a long reigning heel cruiserweight champion would´ve rocked. He reminded me of Y2J back then.

I miss Lash. I thought he was great, and his finisher was sweet as hell.
I wonder where he is right now?

The problem with this angle was that fans were mostly sick of DDP, Sid, Hogan, Nash and Savage, so, naturally, Vince Russo made them the faces. It could've worked and if it had been treated as a true changing of the guard in WCW--the storyline would've been the young, hungry guys trying to make an impact--it would've been the angle to turn WCW around.
That, and the fact that it was Bischoff and Russo working together...we both knew that wasn't going to work.
I'm sure R.D. and Bryan go into this in-depth in the Death of WCW book (which, sadly, I haven't read yet), however. But, much like the InVasion, it had so much potential, yet it just died with a whimper.

According to Hogan's book, the fans didn't like the younger guys or something, so they cheered the older guys...
I need to read the book again...
Or then again, maybe I don't.

^^^ I don't think we should read much into what Hogan thought.

Hogan also once said that he begged Bischoff to push Chris Benoit, but Bischoff refused. Yet he did agree to push Brian Knobbs and Ed Leslie. Yeah, I believe that.

I thought this was garbage at the time, but a year or two ago I obtained a great, but pretty obscure Japanese DVD of the feud/angle, and really enjoyed it (I think it may be the only DVD WCW ever put out, as I certainly haven't seen any others).

The main problem with the New Blood angel is that EVERYBODY was a part of one stabel or the other. It's not as easy as that.

I think the whole "New Blood" thing would've worked a lot better if they hadn't screwed up and chased Eddie and Benoit away a few months earlier. They'd of been a PERFECT fit for the angle.
Prior to leaving WCW, those two, Shane Douglas, Malenko, and Saturn ALREADY had that type of angle going on as a "young guys who are sick of not getting their chance" stable. I forget the name of the stable. It was the WCW precursor to the Radicalz.
In fact, when Benoit, Dean, Saturn, and Eddie got their WCW releases, Douglas asked for his too, but then reneged because out of the five he was the only one Vince wouldn't hire. That's what Shane gets for burning all those bridges!!

I forgot about the Filthy Animals. They were annoying to me for some reason.

It would be like OVW guys going against HHH, Benoit and Undertaker. It never really had any credibility.

Although I'll prob lose all cred (what cred?) for saying this, man, the filthy animals were awesome! Not the first version, but the one with Konnan, Disquo, Rey Jr. Juvi and Tygress. Disco and Konnan were comedy on the mike (Konnan: Hey Tygress, touch my shirt........Whoa! That's EnuFF! Disco: Yeah, that's enuff!)
and Juvi and Rey in the ring, nuff said.

What made the angle crappy was the that New Blood consisted of such youngster as Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell.
Hell even Hogan said that no one over 40 could draw in WCW.

He also takes credit for the world's highest indoor attendance record, when he was jerking curtains for that show and everyone was there to see Flair/Inoki. That book is a huge pack of lies.
