Hey R.D. and all the loyalists,
What are your impressions of the new DVD release "The Greatest Stars of the 80's" ? I was originally excited for it, but when I learned it was focused on only 15 guys, I was disappointed. But I think the information provided was satisfactory - even if it repeats a lot of the tribute packages from the past couple Hall of Fame banquets.
The most shocking comment I have heard so far was WWE publicly acknowledging the Sheik drug bust; I marked out, "Holy crap, did Michael Cole just say 'marijuana' on WWE?"
Has anyone else enjoyed this 3-disc set?

I'm not sure if 15 wasn't enough, so much as it was just the fact that the release was narrowing its focus to 15 guys. I was more hoping for less of the history and more of the matches featuring the stars. Plus, I really expected to see Bulldogs/Harts since the tag division had its greatest boom in that decade.

The DVD is worth it because there's a lot of stuff on there that you don't see that often. They have the Backlund/Snuka cage match (which is the FIRST time he did the Superfly leap off the cage, not the famous Foley match with Muraco), Sheik beating Backlund for the belt, the Piper/Valentine dog collar match from Starrcade 83, the Lawler/Von Erich title unification match...plus a lot of cool extras, like a couple of Piper's Pits and an episode of The Bobby Heenan Show (dude, Heenan just freaking rules!).
Same thing with the Road Warriors DVD--has a lot of rare stuff on there: Warriors beating the Midnight Express for the NWA titles, defending the AWA belts against the Fabulous Freebirds at SuperClash I, and--something I wasn't aware existed--the Warriors vs. Tenyru and Hulk Hogan from Japan.
Vince ain't know dummy--he knows that he's sitting on a gold mine with his film vault.

This DVD has some wrestlecrap on it too. So far there was Jameson and a lot of the JYD stuff. Especially JYD dancing and singing at the Slammy Awards.

The only person whose absence from the disc I am surprised about is Nikolai Volkoff. Everyone other wrestler (this excludes Jimmy Hart) inducted into the HOF this year is on the disc

Nikolai Volkoff was a joke For anyone that truly believes that. I recommend you watch nikolai's induction video into the hof on the wm 21 dvd, which of course includes the hof '05 dvd.

I'm hoping to buy, just as soon as I find a UK site selling it for a resonable price (compared to the US ones of course)

This DVD set is missing the Warrior and Savage. How can you have Arn Anderson on there and not them?

Has anyone noticed that WWE rarely releases WrestleMania matches on its collections? Even the "Andre the Giant" Retro DVD had alternative commentary during the WrestleMania match between Andre and Big John Studd. Both Hulk Hogan & Mr. T versus Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff and Randy Savage versus Ricky Steamboat were rumored for this collection, but neither match appeared. If I'm not mistaken, the last DVD collection to include a pre-1999 match was "Hulk STILL Rules" (WrestleMania III).
Methinks WWE has big plans for the definitive WrestleMania DVD collection to be released sooner than later (although Silvervision already has more than half of them released on DVD through its Tagged Classics collection).

If I'm not mistaken, the last DVD collection to include a pre-1999 match was "Hulk STILL Rules" (WrestleMania III). Obviously, you ARE mistaken! If you bothered getting the 2004 Hall of Fame induction ceremony DVD, then you might have seen a match pitting Junkyard Dog against Harley Race. Now if you only read the inside cover, then you might be mislead to believe that their match was from Saturday's Night Main Event, but in fact, the match on this disc is from WrestleMania III, in 1987. Looking at the closest calendar, I can save you the additional research and tell you that 1987 IS before 1999. Oh wait, I wrote that first message. Maybe I should be nicer next time I reply.
