As in behind the scenes? maybe his divorce would've been less painful, but also it would prevent any jokes about his son in the most retconning way possible. No, I meant kayfabe-wise. "Actually," as in the Macho Man's jealous suspicions actually turned out to be justified, and there was something between Hulk and Elizabeth, which adds a whole new love triangle twist on the Mega Powers explosion angle. Or if could be that Savage being jealous and possessive are what alienate Elizabeth in the first place, which pushes her toward Hogan. The latter would be interesting. What If Hogan Stayed To Put Bret Over?

It might have already been mentioned but I have an idea.
What if Muhammed Hassan hadn't been fired?

What if...Vince McMahon had bought WCW in the fall of 2000? (the slight differences in the timing here could make for some neat twists. For example, WCW programming still had a place on the Turner networks at that time, rather than being in the network-less limbo that it was when Kellner cancelled it which made it that much easier for it to dissappear forever.)
Speaking of which, I think we're overdue for another "whole wrestling industry" RTB. I was a fan of Jed's DX Invading Nitro and Montreal stories precisely because they dealt with how the entire history of the wrestling industry may have been altered, which leads to some intriguing scenarios over how things may have been different. To put it one way, I'd say that the usual RTB which deals with a kayfabe storyline is like a Marvel "What If...?" comic book issue (dealing with a storyline that, while still needing to be faithful to the characters and context, offers quite a lot of creative freedom), while those that I just described are like an alternate history novel (more reality-based and taking into account the personalities and likely behaviors of the people involved to see how civilization might have been different).
Neil and Simon, are any of you interested in tackling that kind of story anytime soon? Because some of the ideas for it that have been suggested previously (ex: Fusient buying WCW, Vince being found guilty in the steroid trial, Vince showing up at Slamboree '98, Eric Bischoff being hired by the WWF rather than WCW) are stories that I wouldn't mind seeing.

All excellent suggestions. Honestly, right now no one idea has grabbed me for my fifth story. But Bischoff being hired earlier by the WWF, Vince found guilty I wouldn't really know what to write. Would be too vague as to what could happen. Vince would never have shown up at Slamboree so I don't see myself writing that. WCW being bought (either by Vince in 2000 or someone else in 2000 or 2001) has merit.

What if...Vince McMahon had bought WCW in the fall of 2000? I've been thinking about it the other way around really. Before WWF turned the war around, it seemed genuinely for a while like Bisch would be in a position to buy Vince out. I'd find reversing the invasion more interesting, personally. Not the next one, but the one after is certainly like this, to a degree at least. It'll be something of a hybrid career retrospective/narrative.

I love the Owen Hart vs. 1-2-3 Kid match at King Of The Ring 1994, even if it was so short. There was one spot where the Kid nailed a Northern Lights suplex for the three, only for Owen to hook his foot on the rope...or did he? Owen didn't get the rope completely, and as a result it would have been very easy to argue that it was a three count and that the Kid won that match...so my question would be...
What if...the 1-2-3 Kid defeated Owen Hart at 1994 KOTR?

I feel I should let people know I'm temporarily pulling a Jed. I don't know if, the way things are right now, I can find time to write. Before people call bullshit, on Wednesday to Friday, I work from 5am to 6pm. Those are good days. At the weekend, I work from 3am to 3pm. Monday and Tuesday, I primarily want to lie down and die, and while I could keep it updated, it wouldn't be to a standard I like. This is just a summer thing, I'm trying to work myself out of student debt before term starts again. It might resume around about September, or who knows, maybe I'll write it through pain and exhaustion, but there you go. Thought people should know, rather than leave threads hanging in the air.

FYI, the site has been updated (thought the main page says otherwise). Part 1 of the new RTB is up!

I read the first chapter, Simon. Looks pretty good! I learn a lot from your RTBs, because it's stuff that was way before my time and out of my area of viewing. Your first one really got me interested in learning more about World Class, after only hearing that the Freebirds vs. Von Erichs feud was considered a classic wrestling feud.
Neil, I wondered as much when I saw you describe your work on Facebook. Sounds brutal. Take your time to focus on work.
Man, as someone who has a lot of free time until late September, I'm getting the same temptation as when Jed first passed the torch to take a crack at writing. Don't know if I have enough faith in my skills as a writer to do so, but I am tempted.

Freakin' go for it man! Also: so that's you that added me Simon and Jed on fb. Wondered if that was a forumite. And yeah, Simon's current story is intense. I've got to part 5 so far, just haven't had the time to devote to read the last part.

Don't know if I have enough faith in my skills as a writer to do so, but I am tempted. Definitely go for it Alexander. ;D Since participation has been a little lacking, I'll try again. Said offer stays open ... or post anything on the Rewriting the Book Facebook page. www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=152379290785&ref=ts

I appeciate the encouragement. I actually do have a story idea in mind, with a fairly good idea of its beginning, middle, and end. Nothing set in stone, but it's taking shape.
This is still just all hypothetical, because I'd need to see if the actual written form of my idea looks good, but if I did want to submit a story, how would I go about doing so?

Just send me the story in an envelope with a ton of cash, and I'll make sure Jed gets the story.
