I'm kinda surprised MySpace fizzled out as quickly as it did. Makes me quetion the longevity of Facebook. Facebook didn't blow up until about 2 years ago, but he's been around for about 5? I'm guessing?

IIRC, Facebook was around for a while, but it was used only for college students in the mid 2000s. It got big in 07/08 with everyone without any reasons why.

Isn't that explicitly for the reason you just stated - they opened up its membership to people beyond colleges? Once Facebook went beyond colleges MySpace was done for. Facebook is much more user friendly, which made it more accessible to our goddamn parents. Thrown in addictive (see also: stupid) games, and you have a juggernaut.

Yeah, my dad is his 60s and is addicted to Facebook. He was banned like 3 times and still manages to go on the site expressing his political views lol. Sometimes it is embarassing to have parents as your friends because they had to know your business and such(like girlfriends/what happened on Saturday/etc...).

I remember using it in 2006, and I was a junior in college and didn't really know anything about it. It was only for college kids at the time, but then about a year later, it started blowing up when it invited everyone and their mothers (literally). But I'm getting bored with it. Nobody really posts on walls anymore. Anyone noticing that? It's about the status and liking things now.
