One thing I've always wondered about immortality: Does it prevent you from getting hurt or maimed? I know that no matter what happens, you can live forever, but can you, I don't know, get your arm chopped off or something? Some fiction says you would, others say you wouldn't. Right. In Highlander, for example, as long as your head isn't removed, then you'll stay immortal. Not sure what that meant as far as losing an arm, etc. Other stories, like Tuck Everlasting, the Tuck family members not only are immortal, but they are near-invulnerable to harm as well.

Okay, because I know that if I were immortal, but had all my limbs removed and were struck blind, I'd probably want to die.

Re: Heaven: Technically, Heaven is eternal, not immortal. This type of thing is best understood in negatives, Eternal is timeless, Immortal is deathless. Two very different things, while we can conceive of being without death, being without time is much harder to understand. What we speak of is deathless.
Again, I think most of these objections are "short sighted." My guess is that a man with unending life would probably find something to entertain himself, would most likely have many families, or undertake a purpose that wouldn't occur to most of us.

Pretty sure some immortals were missing bits, and I am about certain one was blind. And I recall and eye patch.
