Jeff edges him out by a tad, but yes, RVD is overrated.
And I was far from impressed with his debut. Have him beat Sting in under a minute, and have Sting beat the bejesus out of him, and then be overshadowed by Hogan? Good lord, Orlando Jordan had a better debut than that.

I can't stand how people always overlook the fact that RVD always brings out the best in his opponents, and that people love wrestling him. Edge, Randy Orton, and Eddie Guerrero all credited RVD with giving them some of the best matches of their careers. A crappy wrestler couldn't do that.
Also, Van Dam is up there with Shawn Michaels and Curt Hennig as one of the best sellers of all time.

1: I fixed your slight spelling error; I'm just that way.
2: Held him down? Could have been the top guy? Excuse the f*** outta me? You're kidding right? You have to be. So you're saying that WWE didn't give him BOTH the WWE and ECW Championships? They gave him the ball, and he f***ing dropped it. It's entirely his own fault. He f***ed up. Nobody held him down and made him have the "controlled substances". Nobody did that to himself, but himself.
Oh please. He had a little pot, hardly a big deal. Who cares if he got stopped by the cops? Nothing major came from it, so whatever.
He was driving while being under the influence. If you can't see what's wrong with that, well...

RVD wasn't given much during his WWE run, and yet, he was popular.
Maybe it has something to do with his moveset.
Anyway, at 39, I think he can still pull out a few great matches here and there. The one worry is if he starts "mailing it", but hopefully, TNA will do a lot to make him happy.
As opposed to their current plan of making Hogan and his chums happy.

For the love of......
Okay, I'm a HUGE fan of RVD, but this notion he was held down or something in WWE is pretty damn absurd. They made him a WWE CHAMP. They made him ECW CHAMP. Hell, he was a DUAL CHAMP at the time. And the only reason he was stripped of it is because of his own stupid mistakes. (Save the marijuana arguments, please.)
Yea, the ECW resurrection failed big time. But it was WWE's biggest angle at the time, and they put Rob right in the middle of it.
Before that, the guy became an upper midcarder and occasional main eventer within months of his debut. And they even ran with his idea of an ECW Reunion show.
Now, I'm not gonna say WWE booked him as well as ECW. They didn't, not by a long shot. He floundered a bit in the midcard for quite some time because they just couldn't seem to figure out what to do with him. (Yet another incident supporting Cornette's belief all "wrestling writers" should be fired.) But they hardly "held him down." The only time they really did was after his legal troubles...and, let's be honest, what the hell else were they supposed to do??

I was more or less referring to the fact that they only pushed him sporadically during that period of time. There was the pre-InVasion push, the push before the Reign of Terror, a 2004 push, and the WWE Title push. Other than that, they simply just planted RVD in the ring for no apparant reason.

Fair enough. There's no arguing that.
But I'd be remiss if I didn't point those are 4 more pushes than most wrestlers ever get to enjoy.
I guess my point is, if he ends up doing some "shoot" where he rips WWE apart saying they held him down, I'll pretty much lose all respect for him the way I did Kurt Angle and Booker T.
It won't. He'll come in, doing it for the paycheck and the easy schedule, and he'll have the same match with each guy he faces.
This sums it up so nicely. I don't know about the paycheck and easy schedule part necessarily, but he absolutely will have the same match every single time. He has literally been stuck in time for at least the last ten to twelve years, with his haircut, moves, mannerisms, and the stupid yin yang thing on his tights like its still 1996 and everyone is getting into this new phenomenon called "Mortal Kombat".
I love Rob. One of my all time favorites. But he's not gonna do much to help TNA overcome the "old wrestlers' home" moniker.
He got me to want Sting swept out of the rafters and shooed away for good.
Seriously, Sting's gimmick is just as stale as some in the WWE. He's doing the exact same stuff he did when the NWO first formed, except that Hogan is nowhere near the shape he was to fight Sting.

I don't agree with you, but your sig makes up for it big time. 30 for him next season, franchise QB? ha!
I like RVD, he's not absolutely amazing but he's an entertaining guy. I hope to see him around in TNA for a long time, and I hope he brings Sabu with him!
