For me, it's that it's so dumbed down that I'm too ashamed to watch it. Even to see Bret Hart, who I watched wrestle when I was little.

I would have voted all, but setteled for the Guest Hosts and Injury breaks/blood clean ups. If the wrestler's bleeding, oh well. Things happened. No need to stop it cause he's bleeding. Not like it'll affect the kiddie's minds.
Now that we have a GM, is WWE still doing guest hosts? Well, what's the use of that? Save the guest host thing for a special ocassion, like holidays or anniversarys.
That's just my opinion.

It's weird...I really don't miss every other match on RAW being a bloodbath, I really don't. But what gets me is, as Kneelift so nicely put it earlier....when they have things like "hardcore matches" and EXTREME RULEZ! where the whole goddamn point of that match type/card existing is to push the limits of what can be done...yet there is NO blood, no foul language....no "hardcore" violence to be had....NOTHING at all to make the match any different than anything else you'd see on a given Monday night.
So I guess it's when the WWE makes a blatant point of drawing attention to the lack of blood, or the promos where you KNOW a well placed curse word or two would wake the f*****g dozing off crowd up and yet it doesn't happen....I think those times are what bugs me the most about the "New Era" WWE.

Can somebody please explain this whole "blood clean up" and how it all began? I haven't watched in ages and I would like to know.

Honestly, it's a lot of things rolled into one, but it all comes back to one thing: Predictability. Nothing WWE does surprises me anymore. John Cena will take a huge beatdown, but come back to win in a couple of moves, Edge will spear someone, Chris Jericho will say "Hypocrites" in a promo a billion times, etc... The only thing that I really enjoy consistently is the SES.

I'd have to say out of that entire list, nothing irritates me about the "Universe" era more than the Guest Hosts. If they had a quality guest hosts week in and week out that brought something to the table and added to the show (Shaq and Seth Green "wrestling", Bob Barker being his badass self) , then go for it. Instead, 9 times out of ten we're getting guys in crappy skits (Cheech and Chong eating Hornswoggles cereal and tripping, Jerry Springer skit, entire MacGruber episode). I was just so sick of the Guest Host concept after MacGruber that I literally refused to buy tickets for Raw in Miami. I was worried we'd get a crappy host that would make me regret driving an hour and a half and spending fifty bucks.

Honestly, my problem with this new era is that I feel phased out, which seems strange. I'm the advertisers target demo (male, 18-34), and even Vince has admitted that they've lost many in that demo with their programming direction. It's nice to branch out on your audience, give somehting to get the kiddies involved as well as female fans, but damn, they went out of their way to run older fans off.
Sorry, Cena's run where he was getting heat and the response was "he's controversial" made zero sense. Yes, it's turned around, but you know who he reminds me of? Not Hogan, he's Bob Backlund from his title run. People were SICK of him, they wanted anyone but him, and business did go down because Vince's dad, and Vince once he took over, wanted to stick with it no matter what anyone said.
Same for Cena some years ago. Now, he's more over now, but with the drop in ratings I'm willing to give the reason as many of the fans in that "who needs 'em" demo of older male wrestling fans (18-34 is older, I guess) have said screw this and are watching something else.
I don't mind a lack of blood, because I grew up with it being nearly non-existant in WWF. Sure, if they went back to the "if it happens, fine, but no blading" policy, that'd be fantastic, but I can be fine without that or the over the top raunch, as that's not what made me tune in in the first place.
I'll give Vince credit on the first point, he's trying to win back fans with the whole Orton/Edge thing and booking some like that, but I think it boils down to the fact that the ME scene is absolutely not targetted to the older fans nor will it ever be unless something changes drastically. The unfortunate side-effect to this "blend a little rock 'n wrestling with a little attitude" is that the WWE fans, at least at tapings, seem to be programmed to not respond to ANYTHING other than the ME, which means that the stuff catered to the older fans will come off badly on TV, possibly leading to it being scrapped anyway.

I don't miss adult language, but I'd love to see some TV-14 language in the Raw Zone.
Blood breaks- NO. Even when Raw was PG in about '97, they let the competitors wear the crimson mask. I don't understand why it's like this now. What next, removal to the medical room or to the sideline for a further examination in the middle of the match a la football (soccer)?

But what drives me insane is the use of branded terms like "universe" and "sports entertainment" being used exclusively. It sounds soulless, corporate, and takes me out of the action when I hear them from the commentators' mouths. THIS. I hadn't watched in forever until the night Bret Hart returned, and when he thanked the "WWE Universe," I wanted to throw up. Those terms are so contrived. You read the recaps at WWE.com and it's all in this cheesy, made-up language. YES!

Can somebody please explain this whole "blood clean up" and how it all began? I haven't watched in ages and I would like to know. Somewhere along the line, somebody decided that blood shouldn't exist if there are children present. So now, blading is not happening, and whenever anyone happens to bleed for any reason, medics come running out and repairing injuries on the spot while the commentators try desperately try to keep the momentum of the match. It's dreadful. Not since that MTV show pixelated the fireball have I felt so dumbed down by watching this stuff on TV.

I like that theyre cleaning up blood. I just dont like that theyre stopping the match the instant that someone bleeds. Theyre obviously mimicking MMA and boxing, so they should mimic them properly by cleaning it when someone is actually in danger due to a cut of not being able to see. This is the only part of the blood thing I hate. It almost killed Punk/Rey at OTL (thus the "Boring" chant) and they have yet to stop an Undertaker match because of blood - and we've seen him bleed 2-3 times since this ruling started. I'll even partially agree with characters and gimmicks - but where the blame should go to is WWE not using OVW anymore, where they had created characters, and going with FCW, which clones Orton over and over again and uses a Name Generator freeware program to say "Not Randy Orton". I like the Guest hosts- the variety and spin they can put on a show can be good and/or bad. Then again, i'm also of the mindset that a match can be made different just by using a different referee. Cena is their biggest moneymaker and Vince likes money. That's all that needs to be said. Cena's not going away until someone can overshadow his character. I still do NOT get all the Hornswoggle hate on this board. Does he belong there? Apparently he does, he gets tv time - and he got Chavo, someone who was being horribly underutilized, back on TV once La Familia broke up. And Chavo didn't say "No" to the idea, so guess what? They both win by getting on tv and making some money by making people laugh (or in the case of this forum, facepalm or grouse). What little I saw of the Attitude Era did not make me a fan - every time I flipped past it, all I saw was either a gal in a bikini or a close-up of Rikishi's backside. I'm glad that's done and over with. What's going on right now ain't bad. Could it be better? Sure. It's not perfect, but I keep going back because at the end of the day, I am still entertained.

I randomly picked 2, but really the correct answer is all of the above. I still watch WWE because, even in it's dumbed-down state it's still more entertaining than 99.9% of what's on TV these days, but I'm getting really tired of being treated like a pathetic little addle pate.

Like somebody else said, I guess now since the WWE is PG, there won't be any blood. As for when it began, I believe that it started at Bragging Rights during the Orton/Cena Iron Man match. The next time it happened was at Tables, Ladders, and Chairs in a ladder match between Christian and Shelton Benjamin, in which when Christian was being patched up, the crowd was chanting "We want blood!"

I'm telling you, Ric Flair went to TNA at the perfect time. That guy is a fountain once he gets going.
