To the best of my memory unlike a lot of the ECW guys, Sandman did not get fired, but just quit. Prior to that he was actually getting a pretty decent push on Raw. So how far would he have gone? I doubt he'd hold any titles, but I could see him getting involved with some upper midcard feuds. Maybe having a program with someone like Kennedy.

I don't think he would've won the belt, but he'd perhaps have competed for the IC Title.
All I really remember from his RAW run is his feud with Carlito. It ended when Carlito beat him in a Singapore Cane On A Pole match...via pinfall. Other than that, he just had 2 minute matches and caned people, which is pretty much his want I guess.

His novelty was wearing off and would have been a jobber by the end of the year

Newest member of the Straight Edge Society, perhaps even the Masked Man.

Sandman would now have tea parties, and hit people with a pillow while admonishing them in polite terms.

Tommy Dreamer status. Maybe a run in the new ECW. They would have referred to his old glory but never given him much of a serious run. They guy had charisma but no real wrestling skills. Couldnt put on a great match and I doubt WWE would have gotten behind him.

He was/is getting old (hes 47!). He'd not have gone much further than he got, which is probably one of the reasons he left. He wasn't the type of guy that would've been big backstage either. Jim pretty much lives his gimmick.
I love the guy, but he's far more of a novelty act in a fed as big as WWE, whereas he had a niche in the original ECW.

Would have asked for his release at the same time as Dreamer.

His novelty was wearing off and would have been a jobber by the end of the year Yeah, and even if it didn't PG WWE would have killed him off.

The only good thing about The Sandman was his entrance music...in the old ECW

Jim already knew he wasn't that good of a wrestler, right?
Maybe he just didn't want to be a sell-out?

I remember one of the two times marking out in the past five years (other was when Cryme Tyme came back) was when the Sandman was in the battle royale to determine the new Raw GM, and appeared to have won. I was ecstatic, as I loved the Sandman, until Regal came in like a sneaky snake and won the match.

Me and my brother came up with a storyline where Sandman becomes GM, but he can't read, so Regal becomes his assistant/teacher.
Regal: Reading is fundamental (he rolls his r's)

I still think it was hilarious that Sandman was one of the last two or three people in the ring for Vince's son or whatever it was.

i enjoyed Sandmans run when he was here, he was in good shape for the first time in...well, ever. but he was pretty limited in the ring which he openly admits do anytime he talks about his career.
plus his hangover finisher was just him getting on the top rope and just falls on people. i liked his hardcore homecoming match against raven when he actually jumped and joey styles just yells out "OMG!!! I CANT BELIEVE IM ABOUT TO SAY THIS....BUT THE SANDMAN JUST DID A SENTON!!!"
