It seems like everyone in the Star Trek franchise likes classical music. Why is this!? You mean to tell me that in the 24th Century no one will be listening to rock, punk, rap, hip hop, R&B, jazz, reggae, alternative, pop, soul, blues, country, or any other musical genre that's been popular from like 1950 to today!?

Well, there was another World War. Maybe most copies of those other genres didn't survive. What song DID survive that war though?

It was funny how they did a lot of 20th Century bashing on Star Trek. Like out of all of human history, that century was the most shameful one ever.
The biggest reason we heard classical so much - they didn't have to pay royalities for it.

I always pictured Data being into Stoner Rock and Grindcore for some reason.

The biggest reason we heard classical so much - they didn't have to pay royalities for it. I think a lot of the 20th Century bashing on the old series came from the fact that it was made during very turbulent times, and they did something that you wouldn't think a science fiction series would do, and that was tackle very real issues. That being said, I love the fact (or it may be urban legend) that when Star Trek premiered on television, Gene Roddenberry's father went around the neighborhood and apologized to his neighbors. ;D I think they did go with the classical music for the royalty issue, though. It's like how on the old Knight Rider series they used covers of popular songs to get by the paying of royalties. I think they found a loophole or something that has probably long since been closed.

Tom Paris always struck me as a guy who'd be into classic rock, jazz, etc. Dude seemed to have an interest in 20th century history and culture.

I thought Sisko liked jazz? And the crew of DS9 appreciated lounge music.
