Link. Best known as Detective Dietrich on the 70's sitcom "Barney Miller". I loved that show, and loved him in it. His very dry way of getting a laugh was beautiful... he was like Steven Wright before Wright was performing. Rest in peace, sir.

Such a shame. I always wondered what happened to him.
Steve was the perfect example of what Dennis Miller would refer to as "one of those people on a game show (like The $25,000 Pyramid) where you couldn't tell who the contestant and who the celebrity was."
But he had a presence you couldn't put your finger on. Rest in peace.

But he had a presence you couldn't put your finger on. Rest in peace. I understand what you mean. He had one of those faces that didn't that didn't say 'movie star' but was more 'everyman'. His sense of humour, though, was great. Also, who would have thought that of the cast members of "Barney Miller", Abe (Det. Fish) Vigoda wouldn't be the first to pass away?
