Anyone else seen it? I saw it today and thought it was great. Jeff Bridges was great as Rooster Cogburn and didnt try to imitate John Wayne. One of if not the best movie I've seen this year.

Matt Damon was really good too. All the parts seemed excellently cast and recently watching the old True Grit I really feel this one is much better, and thats no offense to the old one which is still a good movie.

Normally I'm not huge on westerns, but every commercial I've seen for this one looks great.

I love westerns, and I want to see it pretty bad. My dad is basically boycotting it though, he's a bit of traditionalist and is infuriated at anyone other then John Wayne in the role.

Same thing with my dad except he is confused with Jeff Bridges. Jeff is okay with him cuz he is one of Lloyd's boys, but he doesn't understand the other no name actors like the one who is taking Glen Campbell's place He wants to hate it but he is confused. especially when I told it is more true to the story

I enjoyed the original more, but this one came pretty damn close to topping it! Also, as I stated in my review (as did other critics), it's hard to deem it a remake of the John Wayne film. It's simply another adaptation of a novel, with this one being truer to the source material. Watch the original and then watch the remake. Though a few scenes mirror one another (which was to be expected), the film has a different tone and vibe to it.
Whenever I watch a remake, there are long spots where I feel as if I'm just re-watching the original with new actors. Not here. Add to the fact that all of the performances are approached differently (especially Bridges as Cogburn), you feel as if you're watching an entirely different movie. Which you basically are.
Overall, I found it to be a damn fine Western!

It's a very good movie. I'm very impressed with the 14 year old actress. She might have a great acting career ahead of her.
