At this point why bother? Seriously no one likes them. Everyone knows what they are and its just better just have one episode less that season.

Perhaps something that would explain a new character coming into the show who will suddenly appear in the next episode without any explaination for their existence otherwise. Does anyone know what I am trying to say? lol

They don't bother me, what's interesting to me is that when they promote that episode, just like every other one, the network will say "All new" and it's obviously not.

One excuse for a clip show is a writer's strike.
Star Trek: The Next Generation did that in Season 2.

Clips shows are usually done to help get a show enough episodes for syndication. Plus, they're easy to do. That's why they bother.

I like on Saturday Night Live when Justine Bateman was hosting they did a Family Ties skit where they were doing a flashback/clip show, but one flashback led to another one and it just kept going. Some long running show should do that

On a lot of reality shows they'll do a clip show the week before the finale. That really bothers me.

Most clip shows are boring...however, with the case of the simpsons 138 episode...it dosent feel like your watching a clip show.

The only clipshow I liked is when The Simpsons' did one with a framing device of Bart's April Fools gag on Homer gone wrong.
