As the title says, what movies, in your opinion, don't need to be on Blu Ray?
I'd nominate Trading Places and Friday. I actually own the Trading Places Blu Ray but I got it cheap.
This thread isn't to say the movies don't benefit from the format but seriously, who NEEDS to see Friday in Blu Ray. It's not needed.

As a Blu-Ray enthusiast I would say:
- Passion of the Christ (Already out on Blu) - Human Centipede (Already out) - A Serbian Film - Blair Witch Project (Already out, I say this because it was filmed on camcorders, you can't really improve the picture that much, but regardless I own it) - Clerks (Already out, same reason as TBWP, you can't really improve the picture that much but somehow they did)

I'm slowly trying to replace my DVD collection with Blu Ray.

What's the reasoning for these movies that shouldn't be on Blu Ray, in your opinions?

The U2 film, Rattle and Hum.
Most of it is black and white which isn't really enhanced by the higher format.

What's the reasoning for these movies that shouldn't be on Blu Ray, in your opinions? Anything that doesn't really benefit from the format. I'll use my example of Friday. Have you ever been watching Friday and thought "Man, Deebo sure got his ass kicked, but I bet it would look so much better in HD." What I'm saying is, if the biggest benefit of your film being on Blu Ray is that you can see all of Ice Cube's goatee hair, it doesn't need to be in HD.

I'm going to say that the only films that don't really need a BR release are ones mentioned above -- Blair Witch, etc. Any other movie, regardless of how mundane or silly, could always benefit from the HD upgrade. As a fellow Blu Ray enthusiast, nothing irks me more than getting so used to watching a movie or two in nice, solid HD, and then having to jump back to SD to watch something else. They look so blurry and stupid. Even a movie like Major League, which I just got on BR a week ago, looks immaculately better on the format than the old DVD.
Not to mention Blu Ray gives more room for special features, more bonus documentaries and such. I live for that stuff. As well as the easier-to-use BR menus, which can be accessed mid-movie rather than having to stop. Blu-Ray Live features are always fun too. BR is just so much more of an experience, vs. "watching a movie" on DVD.

Well, ideally, the primary benefit of HD is better quality for larger screens. In addition, compression from a Silver Screen to a TV Screen always means that something has to be left out. So, in theory, any film could be improved by Blu Ray. The problem is, we are in the early years of the medium, where newly released films will get the full treatment, regardless of how good or bad they are, but classics are going to take years to appear.
Of course, if you mean, which films in my libary should be upgraded to blu-ray, or, which films is the extra money justified for blu-ray, sure. But ideally, I think this is the year when purchasing the blu ray is entirely justifyable

These days, I am torn between buying DVD and Blu-Ray. I'll get it if they're the combo packs, but sometimes, I wonder if the HD experience is really worth it for most movies.

Well, where I get Blu Ray discs, they're only a couple of bucks more than the DVD on the week that they're released. So I usually go with the Blu Ray disc.

I didn't really see the need to release the original King Kong on Blu-ray. But they did... and I have it

Question - do all Blu Rays come with lossless audio, or do you have to double check on the specs to see if you get that?

Question - do all Blu Rays come with lossless audio, or do you have to double check on the specs to see if you get that? I'm not really sure. Most of the major releases I've bought seem to have DTS sound, which is IMO (and when I was very, very briefly a Projectionist at the time, the opinion of quite a few guys in the know) the best sound format out there. I'm not that clued up on blu-ray but I remember on DVDs, Dolby Digital was the standard setting and DTS wasn't that common. DTS seems to be the standard for blu-ray.

The sound is amazing on bluray. BR is just great in every way personally. I'm an HD-addict I guess you'd say. Porn. Who wants to see all the pimples, leg hairs, razor burn, surgical scars, stretch marks and such. You also win here.
