Homer fantasises about murdering his father after they have a car accident. Falling flat may not have been the word for it. It sickened me to my stomach and I haven't watched a new episode since. Yeah, I have no clue what that was about. I get the running gag of ignoring Grampa, but that was just tasteless.

I haven't watched an episode of this show in like ten years, but for some reason maybe a year ago I watched a new episode (must have been realllllly bored) and the entire thing was just sad. Nothing was funny. They threw in just about every "hip" reference they could about iPods and other stupid crap. Just made me remember why I didn't even like the show when it was good. Did the episode involve a family from Jordan and Homer believing that the father was a terrorist? I consider that episode ("Mypods and Boomsticks") to be one of the worst of all-time. How about "That 90's Show", where Homer had padded gloves and coats, and simply just threw them into the fire?

Yeah, I have no clue what that was about. I get the running gag of ignoring Grampa, but that was just tasteless. The fact that Homer was upset about being woken up from that dream did it for me. I mean, come on... the series has made jokes about Grampa being ignored intentionally, but to have Homer attempt to kill him in a dream?

The whole The Burns and the Bees episode. In fact, let's say past season 11 any episode that features Lisa heavily.
Reading this thread though I think we need to split the topics into Before Season 11 Simpson Jokes that fell flat and Post Season 10 Simpson Jokes that were funny. Because let's face facts, IMO pre & post season 11 Simpsons are two entirely different animals.

The whole episode where Homer gets the crayon dislodged from his brain (the basic premise was harvested from one of their Bongo comics) made for a soggy pudding of a story already, but the jokes are just godawful. That's about the time I realized what I liked about the show had finally breathed its last.

That 90's show is the ultimate example that the writers don't give a s*** about continuity. Some people gave me s*** for saying "It Killed The Continuity", but even if you don't argue that, you can easily argue the presentation of Homer as Kurt Cobain or the fact that the show went the "Oliver Beene" approach and simply made jokes about how wrong people's observations were back in the day.

Ignoring the fact they gave up on any continuity years and years before (even before it all went to hell) I kinda liked that episode for what it was.

Aye, I'm aware of that. And I enjoy most Swartwelder episodes as a whole and would say, overall, he's my favourite Simpsons writer period, or at least tied for first, but that running gag didn't work for me at all. I can understand. It is a really weird runner. I thought it was a funny little gag the first two or three times. Then it just became silly, pointless and not remotely funny.

I found Flight Of The Conchords appearance in the season premiere painfully unfunny. That whole episode was terrible.

Homer takes diabetes medicine and Marge thinks it is crack, also from that 'That 90s Episode.'
Just out of place and not needed and a bit too in your face imo

It was soooo freaking bad....I will probably never watch the show again because of it. And haven't since then.

Pretty much everything past Season 10 Fixed. The horrors of Season 11 warrant hazing enough.

okay, one from back when the simpsons was amazing.
Itchy and Scratchy land, when flying to the island and the pilot says something along the lines of: "welcome to Itchy and sratchy land, where nothing can possibli go wrong. Possibly go wrong, thats the first thing thats ever gone wrong"
dreadfully unfunny and it was the joke that led into the commercials so you have longer to think about it

I always though that any Lisa centered episode fell flat. Especially the Buddhist episode.

What bothered me was that they opted to go with the 413th episode where Homer and Marge have serious marital/relationship problems
