Inspired by the Hayley Williams thread. How many bands have there been where a female singer didn't overshadow the rest of the band to the point no one cared about them? Off the top pf my head I can think of Nightwish (not a HUGE, well known band) that are currently on their 2nd singer. Going back a few decades, Fleetwood Mac seemed to be considered as a whole, and not just "Stevie Nicks and friends" and Jefferson Airplane. Any others?

I think (and I don't follow them closely so I could be wrong) Lacuna Coil could fall into this category.

We were talking about this subject at my work today, and half the office didn't even know there was a female in Smashing Pumpkins.

Yeah, she's really hot, but I've never gotten this mentality that she's somehow more important than the others. I apply that logic to every other band out there too.

Annie Hardy of Giant Drag.
Granted, she is pretty much the entire band.

Christina Scabbia completely overshadows the rest of the band. She has been featured as a guest vocalist on Megadeth, Apocolyptica, and Altar Bridge albums. She posed for Stuff magazine. She writes some sort of article in Revolver, and she is continuously considered one of the "hottest female metal singers". The only reason Lacuna Coil is as successful as they are, is due to Christina. The rest of the band is pretty replaceable. In my opinion, Nightwish is a band who has a female lead singer, but does not make the rest of the band irrelevant. Tuomas and Marco especially.

I'd put Arch Enemy in this category. Around the time Angela joined the band, there was a big uproar about "Holy crap, it's a chick!".... but by now, it's become so old hat that it's not even really worth mentioning.

What about Halestorm? I know Lzzy gets most of the attention, but I haven't seen a real overwhelming "OMGZ HOT LEAD SINGAR" vibe from the main fanbase. I myself am a huge fan of the band as a whole, the first band in a long time that I've really cared about every member as much as any one in particular. Oddly enough, I've seen more adolescent girls crooning over Lzzy's brother, Arejay (the drummer) than I have guys creaming themselves over Lzzy.

Forgot about them and I agree that she doesn't seem to overshadow the rest of the band.

Garbage. Shirley Manson seems to actively work at not overshadowing the others. Plus, Butch Vig has a pretty good career as a producer, so, there's that.
Jed Shaffer ~I wouldn't say The Cranberries. Quick, name someone besides Dolores O'Riordan without looking them up.
