So I saw "Tron: Legacy" the other night. I myself enjoyed it for the most part. Jeff Bridges' performance was phenomenal as always. Did a great job at being both a hero and a villain. Special mentions go to Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen, and Alan Boxleitner. The effects and atmosphere was very immersive. My favourite use of 3D in a film so far. Beautiful looking film. The action pieces were a spectacle to watch and some of them were some of the most interesting ones in years. The soundtrack by Daft Punk was truly epic and really made the atmosphere of the film that much better. I also appreciated their attempt to make "Tron" darker and a little more grander in scale compared to the original. Parts of the story (such as the Father/Son dynamic and the corruption of Clu) were executed fairly well. That said, I did like all the subtle throwbacks to the original aswell. I think the things that hurt the film would be the at times clunky and slow pacing of the story. And perhaps a little too much time spent on backstory. The sometimes confusing technobabble and plot could have been a little more tightened. I also felt that Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn was a little bland. He never really struck me or made care as much as I should have. On the effects side, the only negative I can bring up is the hit and miss of the young Flynn/Jeff Bridges CGI. At times he looked startlingly real and convincing. However, there were far more times where he looked rather dead eyed and the mouth just looked abit "off." He looked too much like a CGI character a lot of the time. Overall, I really enjoyed a majority of the film. However, it has quite a few buggs that really keep it from being a truly great film. It's just good. Never lived up to it's full potential. It is a worthy sequel in the end. It's worth seeing in 3D for the experience. The positives outweigh the negatives. 7.5/10 Your thoughts?

AMAZING visuals and soundtrack, story was pretty...meh. I didn't quite understand what was going on at parts (like the programs that just started creating themselves...huh?), or how: {Spoiler}The programs were going to get into the real world and somehow become people But it was fun for what it was.

I loved it.
I also find it odd that people are saying it bombed.
$44 million is a pretty good number for a sequel to a movie that was a notorious box office flop.

I friggin' loved this movie. 3rd best movie I've seen this year behind Inception and Toy Story 3. I loved them touching on the duality of Flynn and Clu. It really was neat seeing all the nods to the first movie. Great stuff all around.

I loved it. I also find it odd that people are saying it bombed. $44 million is a pretty good number for a sequel to a movie that was a notorious box office flop. People are saying that because it had a high budget (somewhere around $150 million), plus another $100 million or so spent on marketing. Unless it has staying power those opening numbers aren't very good.

Absolutely a Yay. It was a fun movie, and it's a movie that was made for 3-D. {Spoiler}I fight for the users. {Spoiler}Awesome, awesome moment.

Me and the girlfriend saw it on Saturday. We both loved it (aside from some dips*** behind us who wouldn't stop laughing at the most inappropriate of times). For pretty much all the reasons stated thus far. Also, I can accept the CGI-ness of Clu, since he is a program, after all.

I loved it. I also find it odd that people are saying it bombed. $44 million is a pretty good number for a sequel to a movie that was a notorious box office flop. The original had a budget of $17 Million and made about $33 Million in North America alone. I'd say that qualifies it as a moderate success (especially when adjusted for inflation).

I loved the ever loving s*** out of it, Seriously IMO 3rd best movie of the year. The Soundtrack was AMAZING without a doubt one of the best scores I've heard in a LONG time. Especially this song I Did however have issues with it {Spoiler} 1. Lack Of Tron (per se)
I understand keeping his mask on at the start to keep the mystery But when its revealed Reznor (Or summat like that) is Tron then he should have took it off now and then
2. Tron's Sudden face turn
It just comes out of no where, We should have seen him have flashes of memory before his corruption to lead into his face turn
3. More Games
The games should have been featured more IMO
4. The "Entrance" into the computer world
Seriosuly where was the kickass entrance from the first Tron 5. The lack of sadness from Sam
After escaping from the computer world where his dad died (Or so we're led to beleave) Sam didn't seem too upset. While I had those issues they didn't detract any fun from the movie what so ever. P.S Did anyone else love the Tron style Walt Disney Ident at the start?

I was wondering if maybe they should have made the programs on The Grid with a more CG look to reflect them being programs, and the Flynns looking more human. But I think they went the right way.

Some other thoughts... {Spoiler}Is it just me or did they plant seeds for a potential sequel? You had Cillian Murphy in an uncredited cameo as Edward Dillenger's son... which went nowhere. That and showing Rinzler reboot back to TRON in the sea of simulation just seemed like they left a few loose ends.

True, but people still lump it in with things like Howard The Duck and Ishtar, it's not right, it just is.

I like this movie with 3D effect. I have to wait until the movie is out on Blu-ray to watch it with the subtitles because I am deaf but this movie is eye candy.

I just went to watch it at the IMAX today with my brother. I have a few things to say about it: {Spoiler}1) I always thought that Olivia Wylde was pretty, but in 3D she is positively stunning.
2) I agree that at times Clu looked just wrong. They should have cut down on the number of close ups as he looked more or less fine when it was a wide shot.
3) I also thought that there was wiggle room left for a sequel, but I have to wonder how since Sam shut off the grid before he left the arcade.
4) I wish that I could download my own Olivia Wylde.
5) I am sure that Flynn did not in fact die at the end, but rather that he actually merged to no ill effect due to the fact that he swapped identity discs with Cora.
6) If there is a sequel, I hope it turns out that Zeus somehow survived that fall. Same with that girl that was with him (the one whose ass got a close up, which was REALLY GREAT in 3D).
