Lol, actually, I've noticed that. I had to watch the Montreal feed for a Bruins preseason game, and they had a big thing on the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. I've asked around, and I guess one reason is that Canadiens fans interact with Boston fans so much, they've.....adopted their teams And as a fan of all Boston teams, I welcome Canadiens fans into the circle of greatness. And it gives us something to talk about during intermissions, when we're not trying to kill each other.

I don't mind Boston since my team is in the Western Conference. Also it's because my Oilers has beat your Bruins for the cup twice

I am sort of torn. I respect the hell out the owner who allowed Bill Cowher to right the ship himself after some really disappointing seasons. I appreciate the style of play (even though it is nothing like what I normally watch as a Colts fan). I like the coaches that the franchise tends to hire.
Having said that, I cannot think of too many QBs that I think as little of as Rothlisberger. It amazes me that he still cannot grow up. Can he play? Sure. Is he tough? Without a doubt. Would I want him as my starting QB? Not a chance. He is too much of a distraction, and a real bonehead to boot.
Many Steelers fans can get on my nerves, but that is the case with most teams. Someone here referred to the fans as being fair-weather fans, but many teams have that. Hell, I will admit that the Colts have that as well. Not everyone sat through the 1-15 season like I did. Raiders fans can be irritating, but I think we can all agree that they support their team whether they win 14 games in a season or 14 games in a decade.

Thats the point man. If you are not a band wagon fan then you should be able to name some of the players on the team during their down years. Yet people who claim to be life long Steelers fans can't name players that were on the team as recently as the early 2000s. I'm not asking people to know who Preston Carpenter is but I think that if they claim to be a life long fan and they are my age then they should at least be able to tell me who Merell Hodge and Bubby Brister were. I'm not really saying the same thing you are at all. In fact, pretty much the opposite. I don't think you can measure whether someone is a bandwagon fan or not solely by quizzing them about former players. Personally, I think sports fans spend a disproportionate amount of time and memory on sports knowledge, when most really have more important things they should be caring about.

At least you're lucky that you were only two at the time when your team lost. But I'm a Colts fan

I just stop watching when they get to the Finals

Only reason I have ever cheered for the Steelers was because they played the teams in the super bowl that knocked out my panthers.
Damn Cardinals, after that loss it was all down hill for Carolina. But hey, been a fan since 96, seen them at there best and worst (1-15 lest we forget.) They are still my team, always. Go Panthers

The names I'm throwing out are not obscure. They are names that any Steelers fan should recognize if they paid any attention at all to the team during those periods. I could understand your point if these were players that were second or third string bench warmers, but they aren't these are players that any fan should know simply by watching the games.

Hey people were shocked....shocked I didn't become a Jets or Vikings fan when Fredo left. I had his book, his home and away jerseys. Nah, I'm not an elitist ass hat, I'm sure they're a thousand more knowledgable fans, but I consider myself a proper fan of Green Bay. *edit* Although I can understand people getting fed up with say how an org is run.

I always respected the hell out of that guy, but thanks to ESPN i really can't stand the guy.(but that another story for another day.) As a fan of the Atlanta Braves, I understand the hate for how an organization can be run. You can hate the way its run but you still cheer for that team. Its not the teams fault its being run by a bunch as asshat or greedy assholes(coughMarlinscough)

I hate the Steelers, though it's just sports hatred. Anyone whose a fan knows what that means. They have a great organization and I love how they operate as far as drafting and such goes. However, I can't stand any of their players (save for Troy) and I don't like how, just because they're a hard-nosed team, the team tends to slyly claim itself as some sort of throwback as if they're the only tough team in football anymore. I also hate how as of late they claim to be a target for the refs when they've benefited from some of the most erroneous calls in recent memory.
Doesn't help that I'm a Raider fan and also dislike them due to the old rivalry, but the above has more to do with that.

I bought an Aaron Rodgers one, though no one could understand why (this was back in 2008).

I hate the Pittsburgh Steelers. I hate them, I hate their team, I hate their fans, I hate their franchise, I hate their owners, I hate their colors, I hate their stupid terrible towels, I hate their name, I hate their city, I hate their logo, I hate their players.
I hate the Pittsburgh Steelers in the morning, I hate them in the evening, I hate them at supper time. When the Pittsburgh Steelers are on a bagel, I can hate them anytime.
I hate them with steak, I hate them with fries. I hate them when overhead, Superman flies. I hate them in my cereal, I hate them with spam, I even hate them with green eggs and ham.
I want to see these "tough" Steeler fans, when their team goes 1-15. When they get NO wins over the Browns or Begals. I want to see how "loyal" they remain to their beloved Steelers, if the last Super Bowl they won...will be the last one they win for the next 60 years. I want to see how the fans feel when the Superbowl mysteriously becomes the "NFL Football Super Championship Ultra Game" and their team is NEVER able to reach it. I want to see the reaction of these fans when other teams laugh in their face and tell them they've NEVER won a championship...despite all their super bowl winnings...just because the big final NFL game changed it's name. I want to see how the Pittsburgh fans react when...as they see thier team fail and fail and fail and fail and fail and fail...other, FAR less worthy teams like oh...say...the Cardnils, or the Lions, or the Saints, go on to not only play in the "NFL Football Super Championship Ultra Game" but also win, while the Steelers remain without a big championship for over 60 years.
If there's any Steeler fans left after all of this...THEN I won't hate them or their team. When they've suffered as miserably as the Browns and Browns fans have suffered, THEN they'll have earned my respect. When decades of no wins against the Browns, no wins against the Bengals, maybe a 1-1 record against the Ravens, and overall, 2-14 or 4-12 record in the NFL per year average...THEN I will no longer hate the Steelers.

Nope, I'm saying that not memorizing facts, names and figures doesn't make someone a bandwagon fan. Doing so just marks how obsessive a person is about it. Note, I'm not saying the people you're talking to aren't bandwagon fans, I just don't think a pop-quiz on Steeler history is a great measure of it. If a person doesn't watch or couldn't tell you how a team is during a slump, then you have a bandwagon fan. But most people do have a lot more pressing things to memorize than sports trivia.

I do agree. I mean I know who Don Majkowski is...but only because Brett took over from him when he was injured. I'm too young to remember everything and a quick wiki search isn't going to make you a 'great' fan of anything. *edit* I think being a fan of a team is liking even a small part of what a team does year by year, say the fans or stadium, or draft choices. Not just championship runs. I think that's when teams get the hangers on.

That is what I've been saying. Having a general knowledge of the players who played key positions for your team is hardly sports trivia. Its a by product of watching the team play. If someone claims that they have been a life long Browns fan and they are my age then they don't know who Bernie Kosar is I'm going to question their fan hood. Same goes for a Steelers fan who is my age claims to be life long fan yet doesn't know Merrel Hodge.
