Just curious if anyone here that has cats has ever introduced a new adult to an adult that has been living with you for a while.
We adopted two cats today from someone who is having financial difficulties and can't take care of them anymore, and we have one cat that has lived with us for roughly seven months. I know they are going to have to get used to each other, just wanted to try and gather any advice, etc.

Put the new cats in a small room at first, for at least a week. Let them sniff each other under the door. If the cat you have now sleeps in a cat bed, put that bed in with the new cats after a few days so it gets more used to the smell.
The likelihood of conflict really depends on their genders, ages and life history. A female cat that has lived alone her whole life is much more likely to cause problems. Two males may go at it for a bit at first but shouldn't be too bad. This of course can obviously vary, but that's just a generalized statement. If they're all neutered things should go a lot easier as well.
Feel free to PM me if you've got any questions or anything, I've worked with cats for years, and behavior, especially doing introductions, is a strong point of mine.

Thanks, it's appreciated. We've got them set up in the spare bedroom. Our original is a female who, we're told, is about three. She's been alone since she came to us but before that was with a woman who rescues, so she's lived around other cats. The two we adopted today are both male, 2 and 1, who have also been around other cats. So here's hoping it works.

That was the most defiant posting of cute cat pictures ever, and it delighted me.
By the way, as Citten has cat related things covered...anybody want to ask about goats or horses?

Yes, my goat is always drinking my soda up and eating my cookies and he won't let me handle the remote to the TV. He also takes up the entire couch and won't let me sit on it. Also, he's much better at getting dates than I am. Although I think that's because he smells better than I do. And I guess I had no real reason for posting this, I was just venting.

It's like he's saying, "What the hell do you want? I was busy taking a nap."
