I went through this about a year ago, even made a similar thread. We ended up getting a PS3 because it had a BluRay player.

At the moment, I would lean towards recommending the PS3, but I do also like my 360, so I guess it reallly depends on each of the console's exclusives game library. I do like to watch movies on my PS3.

Regarding the 360 exclusives for 2011, most of them say Kinect. Does that mean it's still playable with a regular 360 or?

I have a 360. If I didn't, I'd go after the PS3. I don't do online gaming, so the only thing the free internet would help with his things like the SVR 2011 community creations and things like that (not payign a subscription just to download CAWS)
Also, I really miss being able to play the Metal Gear Solid franchise. I know that is being remedied with the next one, but it isn't MGS4. I'd really like to get my hands on Uncharted as well as the upcoming LA Noire. With Mass Effect 2 and 3 coming to the PS3, there are literally no 360 exclusives I care about. The blu-ray player is a big plus as well, though less so since I got one for X-Mas.
I hate slideshow articles like the ones linked. At least use flash if you are going to do that nonsense!

A post I had from another thread from a few months ago. The PS3 just feels more cutting edge than the 360 and I dont even have a slim. The free online, great exclusives, a blu ray player, built in wi-fi, and the fact that its so easy to change the hard drive to get more space is why I really recommend the PS3. Move just came out and is going to add another facet to a great console. P S 3. Inexpensive Blu Ray player, DVD player, Bluetooth capabilities, backwards compatible with your PS1 and PS2 games, photos, Netflix streaming with no disc, huge hard drive, free online play, music, PS Move if you're into the motion control stuff, huge library of sports titles as people have mentioned, easy to navigate XMB menu, HD backgrounds and premium themes, UNCHARTED 2!!! It can basically do everything except cook a ham for you. Dude, like the commercial says, it does everything! Plus, you get to play online with me!! :-) Just to play devils advocate... 360 has: - great exclusives - Huge Hard Drives - Ability to change/upgrade harddrives easily(plus USB flash drive support) - built in WiFi(on the new slim/squat version) - Kinnect (which is xbox's version of motion control) - DVD player - Backwards compatibility for Xbox titles(does PS3 still do this? I thought only launch consoles did) - Photos - Netflix (without disc) - Music - HD Backgrounds and premium themes Its fine to list things good about the PS3, but please dont make it sound like the 360 doesn't do these as well. Now for my 2 cents on the subject: Yes, playstation network is free vs. 360's $50 a year(about to be $60 a year) xbox live gold membership. Personally I am not as impressed with PSN as I am xbox live. But if you are not looking at online game play, then I am taking this out of the equation. I would say PS3 and 360 are about equal right now in terms of content. Each has their titles that are exclusive to that system, and that system alone. Most of the larger titles are available on both systems(tho, most would argue that the playstation version usually looks better). What I will say, just like I said during the whole Bluray vs. HD DVD debate... look at the future potential. Xbox has already reached the limits of what their discs can hold(Final Fantasy 13 was 3 discs long, while the PS3 version was able to fit on one disc). And the hardware in the PS3 extends far past the capabilities of the 360 hardware. Add to it that the PS3 also couples as bluray player. I prefer the 360, but that is mainly driven by the online gameplay experience. But I would suggest the PS3 for you based on what you have given us.

Just to play Devil's Devil's Advocate: "360 has: - great exclusives" PS3 has better metacritic-rated exclusives. Proofs: www.industrygamers.com/news/ps3-outshining-xbox-360-in-exclusives-category-shows-metacritic-data/2/www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27057364"- Huge Hard Drives" As mentioned, the PS3 supports any type of HDD replacement-- the 360 does not. It costs an arm and a leg to buy/upgrade your 360 HDD if you buy the cheaper $199 SKU with no disc drive. "- Ability to change/upgrade harddrives easily(plus USB flash drive support)" That's quite frankly a lie. There's nothing easy about it, and as mentioned it costs way too much considering the PS3 is so hassle-free and doesn't involve Microsoft's crazy pricing for 360 HDDs (since you can use virtually any HDD with a PS3). "- built in WiFi(on the new slim/squat version)" The PS3 had this feature since launch. Only the newer 360 models have WiFi, so don't buy a used 360 I guess. "- Kinnect (which is xbox's version of motion control)" Aside from Dance Central, there are no noteworthy Kinect games to date. Check out the low metacritic scores: features.metacritic.com/features/2010/microsoft-xbox-kinect-review-roundup/"- DVD player" C'mon now. This isn't a positive at all-- the PS3 has a DVD player and a Blu-Ray player. "- Backwards compatibility for Xbox titles(does PS3 still do this? I thought only launch consoles did)" The PS3 plays all PSOne titles, and the older models play the PS2 titles. If you're interested in the PS2 titles, just buy a console-- they're like $20 used nowadays. "- Photos" Okay, this is pushing it, this shouldn't be listed as a 'pro' for the 360 when literally every other console, handheld, and smartphone does 'photos' as well. "- Netflix (without disc)" Same with PS3 and with Wii-- you don't need the disc anymore for the PS3 as of last year. "- Music" see "photos" "- HD Backgrounds and premium themes" They all cost money on the 360. There are some nifty free HD themes for the PS3 (thanks to a more open-ended Linux-based system). Speaking of that, you can use an internet browser with the PS3, and you can't with the 360. You can play free online multiplayer with the PS3, and you can't with the 360. You can synch the PSP with the PS3, and the 360 has no handheld gaming component. ;D Yeah, the PS3 is the clear winner between the two, IMHO.

Did you read any of the quoted posts?? Prefacing this as I was just giving the first guy all the information he needed to make an informed decision. Me saying "well, you can play online with the 360" hints that PS3 doesn't have that option. So while it technically is the truth, it paints a false picture. Ahem... Metacritic aslo states that 360 has more "titles scoring higher than 75" than the PS3. In only one catagory does the PS3 have more games than its counterpart. Yes, so while your argument might be "when they make a game, its got a better chance of being good", the 360 still churnes out more good games. If you make one great game, and that's all you do... that's fine. But if another company makes 100 games, 80 of them bad. 15 of them ok... but 5 great ones... I'd much rather take the one with more good games. The point was how easy it is to switch the drives. Its easy to switch the harddrives in the 360. It may be expensive, but easy. The biggest issue you would have is space on the console for installed games. Anything else can be handled by an external harddrive/flash drive. I have a 500 GB drive that works fine with this, and I bought it for much less than $199. Yes, their propietary drives are expensive, but there are legitamate alternatives... and not as difficult to find as you make it. If we were talking about launch items.. or, as a whole, which company has been better towards the customer... you may have a point. But the list specifically mentioned "built in wifi" which you are going to find in any new xbox you find on the shelves today. You can't give it to PS3 and allude that "well, the 360 doesn't have this". That isn't giving the guy proper information. Grats, metacritic gives a higher score. Already covered this. But, most people that have had a wii say that the PS3 move is just more of the same. Kinnect is actually different and is drawing in more new audience than the move(which is not part of that study. It specifically mentions "hardcore gamers".) This will be driven by preference of the user. Fwiw... i think both are novelty ideas that will fade pretty quickly. Again, the persons referenced beforehand made that a "point for PS3". The 360(not just the PS3) has a built in DVD player, and I want the poster(s) to be aware of that. I specifically addressed the Bluray as well, as a PRO for PS3. Didn't know the PS1 titles played on the PS3. That's good to know. But still, the arguement is PS3 vs. 360. I could just as easily say "well if you want a bluray player, just go buy one". Outside devices should be left out of the comparison. Agreed on all three, was why i brought them up. Someone used these as a PROs for the PS3(like somehow the 360 didnt do these). I was just making sure the poster(s) knew that PS3 wasnt special on this. Not entirely true. But definate benefit for PS3 in that they have more free add-ons. - I personally would never use an internet browser on a console unless it was the absolute last option. - Yes, the PS3 you can play online multiplayer for free... but funny thing is, i personally would rather pay $50(now 60) a year for my 360 online experience than I would play online with my PS3 for free. That's saying something. I think Sony will get their act together eventually, and I think in the end they will win out on most of these(and why, even though I'm defending the 360, i recommended the PS3). BUT I don't think it is as clear cut AT THIS MOMENT as you(and some others) have made it out to be.

This thread is pretty amazing to me. Most on here are saying they prefer PS3. As do I, but most of my friends own the 360. I am without many buddies on my PS3 list. I still play MW2 pretty often. Less now because of school. My PS3 name is joememphis, if you guys want to add me.

Most of my real world friends have a 360 as well, but most want a PS3 now, there was a huge shift right after E3 this year.
