I get the same thing. Over the years through reading and dabbling in writing, I have managed to acquire quite the extensive vocabulary, and it's just the way I speak. In fact, where I work, I've often been asked to dumb down my speech so that others can understand what I'm saying. It got to a point where I had to say, "Would you prefer if I spoke in monosyllabic grunts?" which led to me getting stared at like I had grown another head.
But Diesel, you're the Diesel Train, the Mack Daddy of The Crap boards. In fact, when she told you that you didn't sound black enough, you should have answered with "It doesn't matter what you think!" ;D

No way change is in my back pocket. lol I'm not a fan of it so its not gonna happen anytime soon. The first girl called me her chocolate colored white boy which still makes me chuckle to this day

Years ago while answering phones for a pizza place I had a weird exchange witha black woman on the phone:
Me: --- Pizza how may I help you? Her: You have a very white voice. Me: Excuse me, did you just say I had a very white voice? Her: Laughs, no I said you had a BARRY WHITE voice Me: Laughs, oh uh I got it, thanks, I think.
Yes, I'm white.

Yeah, I get the same thing. My accent throws people off, as I spent several years of my early life in the northeast. When I moved south, it really confused people, because they think I'm Mexican from looks (Puerto Rican), but they can't place my accent or speaking style.

sign me up for this club as well. The "You don't sound like how you look club" is is a place where a person can be persecuted because they don't fit a given stereotype. I do notice that big time wrestling fans talk the same. I think we have our own accent. this theory rings very true. I've had plenty of friends of multiple races through out the years who fit this including me. Maybe this comes from years of so much wrestling and imitating several accents we hear and making sure we formulate the right ways to say some of the most craziest things when discussing wrestling that we kind of kill the way we "should sound".

You should've started yelling at the girl and been like, "I know what's def, what's wack, what's jam, what's straight-up booty!" Then started singing Rhinestone Cowboy.

I kinda get the same problem, except it isn't a question of my race, it is a question of my country of origin, as my voice, as anyone here who has heard it can vouch, does not sound American. It sounds like I am from somewhere in Europe, more specifically from around the British Isles. didnt you post a video of you being interviewed on a local tv news show? That and I made a thread with a link to my first ever podcast where I just rambled on and on about pointless shit.

So I met this girl on a dating site yesterday and we talked and she gave me her number so eventually I called her we talked for a bit and then she asked if I really was the person whose profile she looked at because to her my voice doesnt match my appearance. I dont sound like a "black" person whatever that means. So I said to her well sorry I actually went to school and graduated so sorry if I dont sound like the part. Maybe I should have said yo, boo, & honeydip alot more. I'm not offended just easily amused because this is the second person who has said this to me. I dont sound and talk like a black guy. Alrighty then!!!!!! You're Black?
