There's actually a bit going against Bagwell, though granted none of it is concrete evidence. He's talked recently about not having any problem with guys taking steroids, then saying he didn't want to discuss steroids, since it "takes the joy out of Hall of Fame talk" or something. Should've kept his mouth shut. Also, there's the accounts of him hiring a bodybuilder trainer and giving him express directions to "make me as big as you can possibly make me", and pairing that with his career statistic trajectory puts a cloud over him. Hmmm, I'm not sure I agree with the statistic trajectory. Just perusing his career #s, he started off strong, peaked in his prime years, then had a natural decline. It doesn't seem off or anything like that. He's always had strong plate discipline(14.9% BB rate) so that helped him stay great once his power started declining at age 32. And in general I find the "use random pictures to see if he used drugs" exercise to be a bit silly. Without looking it up, would you think he used drugs?

Then Nolan would be wearing a California hat because thats where his fame came from. But it was HIS choice to go in as a Ranger. Now, with the HOF deciding on caps, he'd go in as an Astro or an Angel if he were elected today. But it was his choice to go in as a Ranger. Since I'm a Rangers fan, and he's my all-time favorite player, I'm not complaining. We have a winner: Wade Boggs going in as a Devil Ray was the last straw for the Hall, so they've taken over deciding who wears what hat. When Gary Carter got in he was hoping to have a Mets hat on his, but the Hall made what's honestly the proper choice and had him go in an Expo. If the Hall were in control, Ryan would have probably gone in an Angel, and Jackson as an A.

Why would anyone vote for Kevin Brown? Seriously, dude's a hothead, a choke artist, and never was that good to begin with.

I wish baseball had more guys in each year like football does. Like....at least 3 set spots each year.
Anyway this year I hope Alomar and Larkin get in.
Although I'm starting to get depressed that so many players I knew as a kid will never make the Hall of Fame.

I'm just happy to see some former (craptatic) Brewers were even on the Writers ballot for consideration in the first place

Good news for the guys who missed out this year but finished high like Larkin and Morris, the list of new nominees next year is very, very weak.
Pedro Astacio, David Bell, Jeromy Burnitz, Vinny Castilla, Scott Erickson, Carl Everett, Jeff Fassero, Alex Gonzalez, Danny Graves, Rick Helling, Dustin Hermanson, Jose Hernandez, Brian Jordan, Matt Lawton, Javy Lopez, Bill Mueller, Terry Mullholland, Jeff Nelson, Phil Nevin, Brad Radke, Joe Randa, Tim Salmon, Rube Sierra, Jose Vizcaino, Bernie Williams, Tim Worrell & Eric Young. A lot of these guys may not even make it out of the screening committee and I can only really see maybe Williams, Castilla and Radke getting a second year on the ballot.

Can anyone really say Bert Blyleven was a better player than Palmeiro, McGwire, Bagwell, Tim Raines, or Juan Gonzalez?

Shame Tim Salmon won't make the Hall, given I personally liked him, but I know the numbers are not there. Speaking of numbers... noticed that there were three write in votes for Pete Rose for the Hall today. It's nothing, either a lark or a protest, but still interesting.

Can anyone really say Bert Blyleven was a better player than Palmeiro, McGwire, Bagwell, Tim Raines, or Juan Gonzalez? He didn't cheat, so in the eyes of just about everyone he's better than Palmeiro, McGwire, and Gonzalez. And Bagwell seems to be guilty by association. Tim Raines probably should be in though.

I'm just tired of the self righteous baseball writers. Explain to me why Alomar is HOF worthy this year but he wasn't HOF worthy last year. And I guess they're going to pretend the whole Steroid Era never happened.

Can anyone really say Bert Blyleven was a better player than Palmeiro, McGwire, Bagwell, Tim Raines, or Juan Gonzalez? 22 years in the big leagues 287 wins 3701 strikeouts - 5th ALL-TIME IN MLB 242 complete games 3.31 ERA That's Blyleven's stats. I'm not sure how you can compare a hitter and a pitcher and decide who was a better player, but I don't see how you can doubt that Blyleven is a HOFer. Palmeiro is a lying roid user, which is why it'll be a long time for him to get in (if he ever does) McGwire was pretty much juiced up his entire career. He's in the same boat as Palmeiro Bagwell will get in, but it'll probably take a few years Raines is top 5 all time in stolen bases, he's borderline to me Gonzalez is a suspected roid user, may or may not ever get in
