I have been watching Saw 3D last night and needless to say, it was incredibly gruesome and it was like a train wreck. I couldn't help but look away. Anyways, are all of the other films gruesome like this one? Which one is the best of the series? Which one would you not recommend?

I'd recommend all of them because I enjoyed them, You saw the weakest movie of the series in Saw 3D.
Go with 1 & 2 as they're the Best (In terms of Writing & quality) and not just "Here's some traps/gore, Enjoy" that the sequels became, But if you enjoy them then give the sequels a blast.

I only watched up to V, but I would honestly rank them in order. Each one got progessively worse.

The first one is the best but really i enjoyed them all because i got past the whole watch these solely for the traps , i found the story pretty enthralling the fact they managed to stretch one whole arc for 7 movies pretty impressive IMO.
As for in order of ranking best to worst IMO.
Saw 1 Saw 2 Saw6 Saw3 Saw5 Saw7 Saw4

IMO, after 3 it all goes downhill. Which reminds me, I finally got around to watching "SAW IV"...well, at least I tried to. Could not finish it. Nothing to do with gore...just couldn't.

I love all of the Saw films. Though in my opinion Saw 3D is definitely the weakest. The beginning, some of the middle, and the ending are the best parts about the film.
Although it's a definite must to watch the first film just for the sheer mystery and ending alone. I recommend to don't read any spoilers or look for any scenes on Youtube. The first film is something that has to be watched while going in completely blind.

Although in Saw 4 you get introduced to one of the most badass FBI characters in the franchise.

Do not watch part 5. Terrible. 5 isn't that bad. Sure, it's not great. But it's definitely not horrible like some people say.

The beginning, some of the middle, and the ending are the best parts about the film. ;D Oh, I can admit that Saw 3D is the weakest one of the franchise so far. Very rushed and a lot of the characters aren't fleshed out or some of the aspects of the 5th of 6th film is ignored. Possibly has to do with the fact that David Hackl(the director of Saw 5) was removed from the project and Kevin Greutert(spelling?) was forced to do Saw 7 instead of PA2. However, it's not a bad film, just from my perspective they could've taken out a few of the traps and focused on the characters a bit more.

I wouldn't say saw 3d is the weakest in the franchise that belongs to the gawd awful 5 followed closely by 4.
What 3D's main problem atleast to me is that it is billed the finale...THAT IS NOT A GAWD DAMN FINALE!!!...and i will leave it at that without spoiling anything lol.

The biggest mistake was them killing off Strahm in 5 though.
